Imagine that, spotty service at 11:30 on a Sunday morning.

When each of three simple breakfast orders is messed up, I'm calling that "spotty" service - at 11:30 on Sunday morning or at 2:00 on Tuesday afternoon.

In my limited experience as a customer, the "after church crowds" can be challenging at times and i'm reluctant to judge a place harshly based upon a one-off.

Thanks. I like your second response a lot better than I liked your first response. ;)

More people should think this way, especially given the challenges breakfast presents that Stephen D mentioned earlier. I had a terrible experience at Wild Eggs last time I was there - only waited 10 minutes to be seated, but didn't get to order for 20 minutes and didn't see my food for an hour after that. But it was the first time in about a dozen visits that's happened, and while it irritated me, it's not going to stop me going back. Unlike one of the friends we ate with, who swears he'll never return.

It was more about letting the snide out of your tires. ;)

That may be so but 11:30 is actually before the major after church rush occurs! It also certainly wasn't the first Sunday they were ever open so they should have a good feel for what to expect and be prepared for it.

Mark-
Is it possible that Sunday rush varies by denomination/mythology since our experiences are quite different? :

Jeff Cavanaugh wrote:If all you get at a breakfast place is bacon and eggs, nothing is going to stand out or be worth the wait. Toast has some great items on the menu - Monte Cristo and The King french toast, lemon souffle and bread pudding pancakes, South of the Border omelette, Breakfast Manhattan - all of these are things I can't or wouldn't make at home, and with the possible exception of the omelette, none of it is on the menu at any of the other breakfast spots in town.

Well, the funny thing is I had the same breakfast the day before at North End Cafe and it did stand out. Each element stood out...the potatoes, the pancakes, the sausage, the toast, I would wait again.

I have heard some excellent reasons to try Toast again and that is why I made the original post. I will do the call ahead thing to avoid the wait and I will try something new on the menu.

I have been multiple times. I've always enjoyed the food, and haven't had any bad experiences like the one mentioned from an eating standpoint, but the service is really spotty, which is downright infuriating when the place isn't crowded. (It's normally very crowded.)

My GF had a terrible experience on Saturday with a particular member of the staff, though all the other people that work there seem to be on the ball, especially Billy (Billie?)--she strikes me as a restaurant industry lifer. This particular waitress (not Billy) asked her to move tables to accommodate a party of four (rather than simply push two smaller tables together), and after she had her move, she resumed doing whatever it was she was doing and didn't actually take anyone's orders. After a good 30 minutes, she paid for her coffee and left.

Maybe I'm expecting too much, but if you're going to make me move to accommodate someone else, I'm going to expect to be able to order food, especially when the place is half-full.
