Re: "THE" La Rosita is open downtown!

Suzi and I went down this evening to have dinner after we went by Hammerheads and found them CLOSED till Sept 5th. I am not sure we are ever gonna get in there.

Anyway, tonight's meal was really good. We shared a small queso and chips since they don't do the bring a bowl and salsa to the table. Suzi got the beef empanadas and I had the fish tacos, and we split a chile rellenos. Everything was excellent.

They still do not have the bar open. Not a huge issue for us but I can see it being one for a lot of people.

The service was not bad, or slow. If anything it appears the message about slowness has gotten through to the management and staff. When we got to the table BEFORE we sat down our waiter asked what we would like to drink and if we wanted an appetizer? And was back twice more before we had enough time to mentally digest the items on the menu and make a decision. The queso came right out.

Dinner did not take long to be prepared and served either. They were not terribly busy when we went in, but before we left they had 3-4 more tables with customers.

I still have not come to grips with them serving fries with the tacos. That seems pretty 'merkinized to me. I had a couple of forks of them. The tacos filled me up just fine. Drop the fries, take off a dollar on the price.

Overall it was a good dining experience. We'll be back.

You are killing me over here!

The New Albany version does offer our Elector and Community Dark. They sell a surprising amount. Has anyone noticed if the Louisville unit has a license yet!

At the NA location, NABC Tafel is now on tap instead of Community Dark. I've been told it is brewed by a mean local Commie non-profit corporation, or something. :D

 Off the thread topic, of course, but I can't resist - we've had the same problem. We've seriously tried to go many times now on various days of the week at various times and have been unable to get in due to (1) it being closed at surprising days/times, (2) no emtpy seats/tables and no sign that anyone was going anywhere for a long time, or (3) private parties.

I've pretty much just thrown my hands up. I'm sure the food is as good as advertised, but at some point it's just not worth it.

The food is great, but the only time I was able to get in they screwed up my order (asked for duck fat fries, got regular). To their credit, when they realized the mistake (I hadn't), they brought out an extra order of fries, duck fat fried, and they were incredible. The normal fries were great, too. Still, it took forever to get waited on after we sat down. The food is incredible, but I'd recommend not going too hungry, because you'll be starving by the time you get your duck taco.

I have to admit, the last few posts confused me: Were they about Hammerhead's or Rosita's?

Hammerheads, I believe.

La Rosita downtown is excellent. We had good food, and good service a few weeks back. The hot sauces are worth the money.

Hopefully they get booze soon, so I can get a margarita.
