There are several discussions regarding this topic and others on these forms: Louisville History and Issues. May I suggest that these discussions in other ones about politics instead of food take place there? Seems like we have gotten way off topic here.

Omitting non-food-related topics would be a hindrance to Hotbytes traffic... speaking for myself at least. Not sure why an occasional discussion like this would bother anyone (considering we all have a choice to read or not read) and it's always vexed me to read the bitch and moan about the so-called threadjack. We're all members here, no need to get territorial. Some of my favorite topics are those that stream off the usual planes, so I ask respectfully: let it be known when you beseech the forum to snuff a topic that you are speaking only for yourself.

And again speaking for myself on this topic, I'm enjoying reading the streams of thought about a subject that pulls at my heart strings. I don't have an argument at all here (or one that I feel deserves a voice), I just enjoy the varied perspectives.

I agree with you Jackie. I find the diversions in conversation interesting and rather like like being in attendance at a cocktail party. One where everybody hasn't gotten completely ripped.

I love threadjack/drift and I think Carla's analogy to a cocktail party is spot on. Of course, I have no objection to getting totally ripped from time to time.

*blushing*...

beseech, supplicate, implore, beg! I love words, but I try to avoid ostentation. Am I threadjacking?

Thats great...Im reading along thinking ,yeah Jakie is making a great point. Then I scroll down and read Carla's awesome cocktail party reference and I think should make a post, then I see Bill has already made a perfect response. Then further scrolling shows Antonia and Robin have posted just what I was thinking as well. Just one of the many reasons I really dig this forum.

And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

Since weve gone off food topic, I will add something even more threadjacky.

This is really good example of Coasean Bargaining.

As transaction costs are very low (effectively zero), the solution is for someone who cares about the preservation of the buildings to pay Blue enough money to make preservation & restoration a more profitable option than destruction. And that appears to be what Wilson/Brown have done.

Im not thrilled about the city pitching in my money, I wish they had merely been a facilitator, but that money is small compared to the W/B money so Im not going to get overly bent over it.

For those unfamiliar with Coase, his theorem and him. And yes, that is correct that he is still alive.

I was with you Matthew, up until the statement above. Can you elaborate on how Fischer looks the fool in all of this? Can you give any examples of how Fischer is having issues running the city day-to-day.

I only ask b/c I think the new Mayor has done a pretty bang-up job during his time in office so far. I don't claim to be ultra entrenched in Louisville politics, but what I have seen of the Fischer administration, I like.

DD

Totally agree. Fischer is a pretty crafty guy. The initial agreement with Blue to allow the leveling of the buildings may have been simply a tool to get everyone to the table. I don't know for sure, but from what I know about Fischer, it's plausible.

Im willing to call him (so far, at least), the best Louisville mayor of my adult lifetime, admittedly, sample size of 3.

Of course it wouldn't take much to be better than last one! It seems like everything he did was underhanded and through the back door. Unfortunately, residents of the suburban areas are going to be paying for his biggest fiasco (merger) forever!

Concerning my comments on the new Mayor.

I think both the ongoing LMAS debacle and the poor responses to two Rubbertown incidents illustrate moments where the current administration has (or continues) to drop the ball. Sure, they seem to be slowly working out the LMAS issues, but any advances on that front are due more to the work of Jake over at the VilleVoice (along with WAVE and WDRB) than proactive work on the mayor's part.

And that's what really bugs me about Fischer. He just seems to be very reactive - and not only reactive, but sort of grudgingly reactive. He did cancel a meet-and-greet with Rubbertown citizens to discuss one of those alarm situations to attend the Bellarmine basketball game. That, to me, says it all. He's great at shaking hands and looking the part. To be fair, I wasn't a big fan of him from the start. He's a never-ending hype machine. But, hey, that's the business world he comes from and the worldview he brings to the mayoral position. I'm just leery that he's always trying to "hype" my attention away from a more pressing issue.

I never considered voting for Heiner if for no other reason than his stance on fairness issues runs totally against everything I believe. But, I do think he might have been a better "operator" for the system. We need a new system. I like the government structure where there's the actual city manager and then more of a figurehead who plays mayor at all the official events. Fischer would be perfect for the figurehead job.

I think it's Robin who has said this on the board before - Dave Armstrong's term as mayor is undervalued in this city. I was maybe too young then to take it all in, but he just seemed to have a plan and then carried it out. As for King Jerry, he lost me at "Central City" or whatever that poorly planned monstrosity is going to be (if it ever happens).
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.
