Maybe the original poster should learn how to spell "Eddie" before they start bitching about where we went to high school.
It is always funny to me that people think New Yorkers are that much ahead of us. I lived there for years and can tell you it is just everthing amplified, more good and just as much bad. Have you seen the decor of the "Jersey Shore" house. It looks like the person that decorated an Okolona basement did it.

Tim, I am guessing you have been inside the Jersey shore house? And what's the matter with Okolona?
I have a few friends that live there, I would love to pass along the message.

Whoa whoa whoa The Jersey Shore is by no means a portrayal of New York City.

Or of Jersey, or Italians...or Americans...

I got the high school question all the time in Louisville, and conversations usually ended pretty promptly after that. But as someone else mentioned, if their life is so boring that it's hinged on high school 20+ years later, I'm probably didn't miss out on much. But it was rather mind boggling to keep seeing the same pattern, even after our neighbor promptly warned us we'd get this question a lot on our first day in town and then never spoke to us again. I got asked the question from people in the early twenties to mid forties, so it's not an older gen thing.

It's sad that Phil left, he had some valid points...could have gone about it differently, but sometimes stirring the pot gets people to react faster.

Tim,
I try not to be critical of spelling mistakes on the internet, but if I were so inclined, I'd most likely carefully spell check my own post. :?

I love architecture and design, and there isn't much of note in Louisville. I get to indulge those things in my travels and in my own home. If those things are a person's top priority, this isn't the city for them. Just like someone whose priority is surfing probably shouldn't live here. Or someone whose priority is bourbon shouldn't live in Saudi Arabia. I'm not going to complain because Louisville is about different things.

On the point of architecture, many architects would disagree. Now it matters what type of architecture and design you are looking for, and sure Louisville won't compare to NY, or Chicago, or..., but there's plenty of attractive and important architecture in the city.

Let's see - there's the largest maintained Victorian neighborhood in the nation, there's a Olmstead designed park system (last time I checked he also designed Central Park in NY). There are a number of beautiful historic homes (Locus Grove, Whitehall, Thomas Edison House). There are beautiful churches of various time periods, denominations, and style. There's Waterfront Park, which only won every park design and city improvement award when it was opened. There's Slugger Field which is much more than a baseball stadium. There is (soon to be was) Whiskey Row. Churchill downs and the skate park.

When it comes to architecture, Louisville is not, like I said, NYC, Chicago, SF, etc. But, you can put anything up under the microscope and decide what it's not. That's an easy exercise. If you want proof, go check out the NY pizza complaint-fest thread.

Hailing from across the pond, my accent gets remarked upon every single day. (gets a bit tedious) I get everything from: England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, German (don't quite get that one) but the most original was.......... "Are you from Lithuania?" I didn't see that one coming at all. :D

The school question plays heavily in England, and, yes it is to distinguish what class you are from. Stupid, I know but there it is. Whether you went to a Comprehensive (as I did) or a Public School (private in US speak) one can tell what class you are from.
Comprehenisve - working class, middle class
Public School - upper middle and upper class

One thing I like about the US is the not so apparent class system.

I agree Matthew, all of those places are quite beautiful. I'd add Bellarmine to the list, particularly the chapel with the huge windows. No, it doesn't compare to the large cities, but Louisville's much prettier than many similar sized cities. But I prefer the older architecture to the more modern styles and Louisville has an abundance of well done turn of the century design.

Come visit Detroit for a few days, Louisville will look much better to you! The several feet of snow disquise the lack of design and covers the grime.

The people I've met who seem to "struggle" the most with Louisville are those who come from a big city and want the big city experience. We might be a big small city or a small big city, but we are not, and probably never will (let's all hope), a true big city. On the flip side, everyone I know who has moved to Louisville from a smaller city loves it.

A good friend of mine from college (from Chicago) told me he could never live in Louisville because it does not have pro sports. He went on to say, "It's not so much the pro sports, though I like them, but that, to me, having pro sports marks your city as having certain other characteristics." He said this while living for a year in Indy. He is now happily back in Chicago.

I am adding "The Brennan House," it is the only Brooklyn, Manhattan style Brownstone in Louisville.
(that I know of ) My wedding was there, 23 years ago, and it was a beautiful venue for such an event.

Pointing out grammatical errors on internet posts as an attempt to devalue an individual's opinion?

This forum has sunk to an all-time low.

Just this thread. For now...I'm sure there will be another all-time low sooner or later, but this one is a hot button in my book. If people have no response to another person's opinion other than their inability to spell a word in accordance to Webster, then yea, it's a might irrational. I'm probably guilty of it in the heat of a moment and it's simply wrong. I am human and endeavor to not do this very thing. It's not a thing I am claiming everyone on LHB has done in the past; simply that it's one of THOSE internet statements with no bearing other than personally attacking an individual. It's the way I feel and make no apologies for it.
