Retailers can do this without a law. Aldi, for example, already does.

Like another hot button issue, Roger Baylor has managed to make NABC smoke free without a law forcing it.

On a related note, if they are gonna charge for bags, can they switch back to paper bags? I never understood the switch to the crappy plastic bags in the first place.

Get rid of all bags, carts, baskets and only allow shoppers to buy what they are able to carry out of the store...This Kroger is 10 items or less per customer.

As an environmentalist, I support the law. Why produce yet more trash unnecessarily?

Yes, habits are hard to change, but c'mon folks, you can do it! (I feel like I'm giving a pep talk to my students to try to boost their confidence for doing trigonometry).

Yes, it'll be hard, but once you get in the habit of grabbing those bags out of your car (another non-environment-friendly object), it becomes really easy.

And, by the way, where do those "disposable" bags come from? Petroleum anyone? Can you say oil? And where do we get our oil from? (middle east) And will it last forever (no). And are people dying for our "wars for oil?" (yes, many many people)....

So. Yes to charging for bags. AND yes to a gas tax to fund public transportation (yup, I said tax. But you can avoid it by hopping on a bike).....hey, I didn't open this can of worms....a lot of underlying issues in this lil' ole law.....

Fortunately, there is no law in Indiana that says your alcohol must be bagged. Apparently, people must think that a brown paper bag has stealth abilities that inhibit the police's ability to see you drinking in your car. I would think that it would be much less obvious if you are drinking from a bottle as opposed to a bottle sticking out of a brown bag, but that's just me.... not that I am advocating drinking and driving :?

I am against charging 10 cents per bag. I say make it 25 cents.

Well, I don't know, but I'll check the next time we go. We usually hit either St. Matthews or Dirty Kroger, but we don't go to Kroger in general as much as we used to.

Prospect Kroger doesn't give the discount any more, either. But I think I've used my bags enough over the last couple of years to have paid for them at least. Plus, once one of the handles broke, and they gave me a new one. I wonder if they will still do that?

Might as well charge (tax) for all the plastic produce bags while you're at it.
