I am in ecstasy over the reality that opinions are still tolerated on this forum. Keep it up! To agree to disagree is the foundation of America's democracy. In a week consumed by tragedy and political vitupertude, It's wonderful to find a place where disagreement can go on with passion, yet tinged with civility. It's too bad the Democrat and Republican parties and the Fox Network have not learned that the bastion of our democracy is divergent thought and not attack and conquer. This forum has it right. Thanks guys.

All that's fine, guys. Opinions are always tolerated here.

What I will not long tolerate is personal attacks.

Is anybody unclear about the difference?

I've known a number of people who have worked at CB. None of them describe the company atmosphere in glowing terms.

I'd be willing to bet the quite a few of you all who are casting large stones at national chains, got an early start & some very valuable training & knowledge from working at a national chain many years ago. I am not crazy about national chains, but must admit some do a good job, and they have a necessary place in our society.

When I am really sick I make my husband go get me Cracker Barrel take out because it reminds me of my grandparents and is comforting. It's like eating bland nostalgia. That and my husband can't cook, so it's sort of a win-win.

You say it like it's a point we will all agree on.

We eat at Cracker Barrel sometimes when we're on the road. I always get breakfast, no matter the time of day. Funny, though, we live just a few minutes from the Crittendon location, and I think we've eaten there maybe a total of 3 or 4 times over the last decade. Definitely prefer it over Denny's. I have a soft spot for the Waffle House, not shared by everyone in my family. My daughter and wife like roaming the CB store before we get a table.

For the record, I'm right there with you on that! 8)

That said, though, both Cracker Barrel and Denny's have "diversity" issues sufficient to get them crossways with the law, and to be quite honest, in my personal universe, that's sufficient to put me off a place without regard to food quality and value or even whether it's a ch- ch- chain.

If a "cookie cutter" concept is consistently good, then I don't object to cookie-cutter. While I understand the disdain some independents have for Cracker Barrel, I've eaten at many of their locations, throughout numerous states (especially when traveling), and have never been disappointed, finding them to be consistently well-managed, with good food...some will say what they want about chains, but CB appears to do it right, and the amount of business that you typically see at their locations attests to that fact.

No kidding, Im always amazed how many cars are in those lots. I spend a fair amount of time on the interstates and no matter what state were in,its always the same. Personally I dont see the appeal.

Trying to say this as non-judgementally as I possibly can, and seeking information, not yuks: I wonder how much crossover there is between the diners who line up at Cheddar's and those who line up at Cracker Barrel.

Travelling as a vegetarian is very difficult (for me). I'm not talking about once we're at our location; I mean literally the travel to and from. Usually, I make sure to pack food for the drive/flight to wherever we're going. However, on the way home, I almost always look for a Cracker Barrel. There just aren't many chain places (in bulk) that serve food I'm willing to eat.

If I go to CB, I know I can get food that's decent. I know there are several meatless vegetable dishes and I know there are lots of breakfast items I can get.

I like Cracker Barrel onion rings.

Is Cheddars a curse word around here? Their chips and queso are good, and my kids get enough chicken tenders on a 3.95 order to eat for two days.

*edit and the tenders are very good. For chicken tenders I guess
