I usually expect to pay outlandish prices when attending a ball game or concert. With this in mind,
I think Levy does a pretty good job of the concessions at Churchill Downs. Execpt for the first night race fiasco, they really know how to serve infinitely large numbers of people and the food is usually fairly decent.

I agree. Nothing fabulous there, but it is edible and the service is always more than adequate.

Reasonable prices make sense though. It would seem to be that if you are in the gambling business, you'd try to get people to spend as much of their money as possible at the windows. I still can't comprehend why Churchill charges admission. 3 dollars to get in? That's three less dollars at the window...now charging for upgraded seats? That makes sense. But general admission should be free.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

It's the same for bars charging a cover to enter the premises. Not all people are going to drink. Just as not all people are going to bet at Churchill Downs. Each facility wants to ensure they get revenue per person in the slightest way imaginable. And,really, $3? I'm fairly certain that amount of change is in my couch.
