That's the one, although to be fair, it's not so much "run-down" as "blue-collar," with older buildings. DakShin is very well-kept, though, and for what it's worth, the Gordita Trailer comes to rest in the same parking lot.

I have never felt in any way unsafe there, not at DakShin and not around the gordita trailer.

Actually it is just about the perfect shopping center.
You can gas up your car.
Swing over to the liquor store.
Dakshin
Gorditos trailer
Dollar Generall for bread and milk and most importantly .. dog treats ..
Subzi International Market owned by the same people as Dakshin.
Also the Hispanic grocery.
Romans gun store .. best in the city if you are mad at someone.
And if you are really crazy, at the other end is a fitness center.

That's the same place I was thinking of then! It really does need a fresh coat of paint and a little modernizing, not a bad area in any way...I live a few minutes away, but it could use some sprucing up!

The hispanic grocery store probably looked a bit more open because they just moved into that location a few weeks ago. They were in a very tiny place at the end of the shopping center by Watterson Trail. Guessing the new store is at least 3 times larger so they may still be working on fleshing it out. I'll have to get around to check out both of those stores sooner or later!

I'll be keeping an eye out for the gordita trailer, I've seen various trailers there in the past but figured it was connected to the hispanic grocery store.

The Gordito trailer will be there only the weekends. It is a small trailer and will be right at the entrance from Watterson Trail. He will have a small tent set up next to the trailer. Order at the window. Have great stuff like tongue tortillas but also plenty of items that would be attractive to the less adventuresome eaters.

Since you live close I hope you have tried Dakshins. Lunch is a fairly small but good buffet. Dinner is inexpensive ordered off of the menu.

Hey Steve. I am one of the really crazies that has been going to that "fitness center" for about 10 years since I fired the Milestone. It is relatively clean and very inexpensive. Think Aldi of the fitness world. In the morning when the elderly go, there is a very eclectic mix. About half and half white and black, male and female, hispanic and anglo. There are a lot of retired union folks from GE, Ford and the railroad although you would not guess it talking politics with them. The location allowed me to put up the first post on the Dakshin. No eye candy there, but then no one hits on you. Rap on the window the next time you come by.
