This store is awesome. They have almost every Cajun imaginable and at fair prices. I can't already see the bank account getting smaller.

Alligator, Redfish, and Crawfish shipped to my door, it's dangerous.

Thanks for the link.

Have you tried any of their "meat" products? I was curious about the quality.

We did a big order of their shrimp, live crawfish, and andouille last year for a tailgate boil - everything was great. I have not tried any of their other stuff like the boudin, etc. but the friend who threw the tailgate swears by them for everything cajun and he was born and raised in Louisiana so I consider that a good recommendation.

I do plan on ordering a turducken this year from them for Thanksgiving, though it will probably take me right up to the week before to decide on which one to order. They all sound good.

I LOVE Cajun Power. Every time we make it back to New Orleans, I bring back like a dozen bottles. We have looked into getting it in for the stores, but it is cost prohibitive for what is essentially a "free" condiment on the tables (and especially when you consider how many bottles of Crystal and our house brand we lose to peoples' sticky fingers, I kid you not). I am pretty sure Joe Wheatley over at OK Bayou has "intimate" pictures of someone over at Abbeville, he seems to have the hook-up when it comes to the stuff. :D In all fairness his average plate price is a bit higher, so maybe he can justify the expense a little more easily than we can. I will, however, re-investigate the matter and see what we can do.

As for getting other sauces over Jambalaya, of course you can, just ask! We also do combos, so you can get equal parts Jambalaya and something else as well!

Thanks again!

That is a dangerous thing to tell me, Tommy! We are heading down that way next month, so I will keep that in mind. Is the health department here cool with refilling bottles? I thought they cracked down on that...?

Thanks for the tip and the offer!

FYI. (Robin, remove if inappropriate)

The Poplar Level store is OPEN once again! I am personally overseeing and working at the store, so if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me directly (ronnied@jgumbos.com). We are going to treat this store like a company store for the time being so there are going to be all kinds of new things going on, specials, and other assorted offerings and I will be on site on a daily basis (every moment I can spare).

Right now we are offering $5 entrees (includes drinks) everyday until November 13 with even better specials on the weekend.

We are working out things like beer licenses and such and I would love to hear feedback on what kinds of beers you guys would like to see in our store. We will, of course have Abita and Dixie as they are available. I'm a big fan of NABC and BBC so you'll see those as well.

Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding as we try to get things back on track.

No need for that, Ronnie! It's an appropriate, and happy, response. I'll go edit the subject line of the first post so when people hit the forum they won't think you're still closed.

Good stuff, Ronnie. Any news on J Gumbo's in/near Fern Creek? My ear is getting tired. Joke! We'd love to have it.

Kyle,

Not yet. I have been in Columbus OH the past two weeks working on a couple of new stores up that way, so I have not been around to hear much. As soon as I know more, I'll post it up!

Since I posted the original message, I am happy to say, that TODAY my son and I had lunch at the poplar level J. Gumbos. Red beans and rice for me and Gumbo for him. All's well. Grand re-opening special is: all bowls are $5.00 and includes your drink.

Come on out and have lunch or supper there this week.

Thanks Richard!

Great to meet you and a pleasure to serve you again! We have been working diligently to get the store back on its feet. We will be running some pretty inviting specials in the next few weeks. We appreciate all of the support.

(Oh and don't mind our "C" from the health department, I had two extremely minor leaks on my hand sinks that were fixed within 30 mins. of my inspection. I'd be happy to give you a tour of our very clean kitchen!)

Just had carry out from the Poplar Level Road J. Gumbo's and happy to say that we were very pleased. The two young ladies behind the counter were very polite and personable. We had the bourbon chicken and Voodoo chicken. Both good and the portions were more than ample. Glad to see that this location has turned around for the better. BTW- I used the Groupon coupon and paid $6 for 2 entrees. If you're in the neighborhood, give them a try.
Is that a raw fish in your pocket or are you just glad sashimi?
