I really like the Travel Channel idea!

I'm a fan of that network. It makes me wanna be adventurous and try something new. That kind of inspiration on the diner can free a chef up...

PS. Cause when you travel to a new place, it always seems like an adventure, doesn't it? Indiana Jones and the properly-made taco, so to speak.

Fox News has been a leader in the movement--that's part of the problem.

I think we should give Karl Rove some well deserved credit.

Eve Bohakel Lee wrote:Michael, I appreciate you wanting to evoke the roots/influence of your cuisine in the name of your restaurant, but people can't help but draw conclusions based on a more familiar archetype. It's like if you named your kids George and Martha—many people might think you're a big history buff and named them for the first president and his wife, but in fact you might have just named them after your wife's uncle George and your mother Martha. Similarly, broadcasting an outlet with such a loaded reputation for bias (in any direction) can lead people to assume that is your angle too. All depends on your audience; as I said, some people may see that as a selling point.

Sorry but I actually think of "Who's Affraid of Virgina Wolf" when I hear George and Martha... I guess it all depends on how you view the world... So to say that everyone draws the same conclusion is not really true.
I like the name and I like the restaurant. I have been in twice and had the large Gyro the first time and the half Kabob special the second time. Micheal is doing a great job. As for the TV, as I said earlier.. I prefer no TV's when I eat but since he has the sound off it really is very unobtrusive.

There's blame on both sides. I find it hilarious that a cable news channel, so-to-speak, can get someone so upset. I never set foot in my waiting room - don't know what they watch out there.

Mark, the economics of the doctor's office may be different from those of the hospitality industry, but I think the point some of us, at least, are trying to make is that businesses that serve the public would do well to steer clear of entertainment or decor that might offend some of their customers. WITHOUT REGARD to what particular persuasion it offends.

Actually, I hope my doctor is at least marginally conscious of what's going on in his waiting room. After all, the folks waiting out there are consumers too ...

My patients aren't "customers" in the most strict sense - never have been and never will be. The relationship is more complex than that.

Fact is that patients ask me my opinion on all kinds of issues all the time including social, political, and religious matters. After all I'm advising and assisting them with decisions of the most profound and personal nature - as far as I'm concerned they can ask me anything and I'll give them an honest answer.

I'm not interested in being everyone's physician - I promise you that there are people who are put-off by my approach and style of practice. I just want to best the best I can be for those who find my direct and personal approach beneficial. If you want generic and totally non-offensive - then you lose your personality...and a bit of your soul.

If they have a problem with the tv in the waiting room...tell someone and I'm sure it will get changed - after all it's for those waiting there. If that's enough to have them look elsewhere for a physician, then look elsewhere because something else will likely irk them as well before long.

My last word - I'm a bit if a dinosaur - I don't want medicine to become what fast food is to the food world. Unfortunately the "business" of medicine is making everything generic, care included. I'm for the 'indy's" of the medical community.

Interesting rant, Mark. Thoughts worth pondering from the patient side of the divide.

When in doubt, simply dispense with the TV completely...guests are (presumably) visiting your establishment to enjoy the menu and ambiance...if they want to eat while watching television, they could just stay home.

Stephen - Great idea...The Food Network it is. Did you ever get a complaint from someone who doesn't like a certain type of food. Just wondering becasue food is such a personal thing. I don't think it would be good to have a show on the TV where they are making bread and I happen to have a celiac in for dinner. I am so darn confused....Should I also change my name from Michael to something more ethnic so not to offend those who thing a boy from Pikeville, KY stole their food ideas. I tend to agree with Mark, we are who we are, come if you like. If you are so intolerlent of opposing ideas you are just adding to the the problem.

I find Fox News to be annoying. I can't say I choose restaurants on the TV station, but if I did, it wouldn't be Fox. MSNBC is more to my liking, but again, it would be offensive to many. If I had to have news on I'd be Headline News which is just pretty generic news reporting but I really like the idea of the Food Network or the Travel Network. If you have to have a TV on, make it fun.

Whenever a guest requests FOXNEWS be put on the TVs, I tell my boss I'm going to call OSHA and report inhumane work conditions.
