I was talking to the Owner after having lunch yesterday and he mentioned they were going to change some tables around; add table clothes; plus other things. I'm not sure of the time frame.

By yourself? Briefly discussed spicy with one of the servers? We were the couple at the 4-top next to the wall. We are regulars at Shalimar and were comparing the two. Little India is much spicier, which unfortunately will keep our friends away, but will keep us coming back to Little India. We enjoyed the buffet. Small world.

Oh, yes. Very small world. I like the fact they are able to cater more for people in tastes. People like myself who like the very spicy and those who don't may be able to come there for dinner for have separate dishes; each to their liking. The buffet, for me , is relatively mild. But some people don't like spice at all in their food.

Lunch today at Little India Cafe. Let's see if we can run them out of food!

Another amazing lunch today, they had an Indian style squash dish that was outstanding, a broccoli dish and cabbage dish that kicked butt as well. The place had quite a few people eating lunch today, so maybe the foodie community is responding. This place is the real deal, the Indian version of Vietnam Kitchen. Let's keep this great restaurant going with our regular support.

I've been once and I guess I'm just not as smitten as everyone else seems to be. The food is good. The veggie options are a change. However, the flavors seem about the same as most of the other Indian spots. I wouldn't drive by Dakshin to get to Little India.

We were in that area looking for Mr. Pollo last night, and stumbled on Little India instead.

My sweetie ordered the veggie samosas for an appetizer, and the chicken vindaloo for her main course. She enjoyed both very much, and from the tastes she let me have, so did I.

Being a LOL (lover of lamb dishes) myself, I chose the lab biryani. पवित्र फूँकती, that was a good dish. The first thing that struck me was the flowery aroma of the rice. The taste was nice and zippy, served with a yogurt sauce on the side to cool things down a bit.

I really did feel that I was eating Indian home cooking, albeit in a converted sub shop. I wish them luck and hope they're around for a long time to come.

One of the best things I like about Little India is they use yogurt instead of cream in their dishes; it makes them more flavorful. Now their menu is not going to be as large as Dakshin because they only focus on one region; that's fine. However I have never had a bad dish or one without flavor. Some other Indian places lost the flavor or the dish becomes too heavy because of them using cream. I'd probably go to Little India for a more focused meal on flavors, but Dakshin on selection. From my house, they are about the same travel time.

Had dinner there last night.... no styrofoam plates.
Yummy veg Samosas, crazy hot... "chicken 65" and tasty Lamb Biryani.

Not as rich as other Indian restaurants, but definitely aromatic and flavorful.
Would like to have had more Lamb in the dish, (all meats are Halal).
Iced tea fantastic, (chai spices in tea).

Definitely recommend it at least to try it.

I recommend everyone try the lunch buffet. You are able to sample quite a few items, and get a great feel for what they offer without having to choose a single menu item. Last week on the lunch buffet they had a beet type of pudding dessert, that sounds funky but really was excellent.

I'm going there for dinner on Tuesday.

Suggestions?

Chili 65 is one of their spiciest, but am going to be with someone else that may want to sit 5 feet from my face or try the dish too.

:)

I was going to do it, but opted for the Lamb Vindaloo. Not a bad decision.

We were talking with the owner and he mentioned being one of the gentleman that started Shalimar. Has this been mentioned?

He told me the same, but I remember Shalimar as being open in 88, and he said 96. I had an art gallery back then where the pharmacy dept. of Kroger is in the shopping center down the street (name escapes me) and we used to go to Shalimar for dinner after we closed for the day.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I;m not sure, Heather. We were away from town from 1990-94, and I wrote the restaurant column right up to the day I left (actually, for a few weeks after) in January 1990, and I'm pretty sure (no, not positive) that Shalimar wasn't open then.

The gent told us something similar, but, not to be a cynic or anything, I didn't mention it in my review because I hadn't checked it out.
