Do we actually know they are selling all the equipment with the building? I would actually think having the building re-leased (or sold?) my be a good thing since see no longer will be saddled with expenses for that building. Hopefully we'll hear something soon.

Perhaps I mispoke. He posted a "Sidewalk Sale" on July 3rd in the Deals & Off Topic Spiels section on June 28, 2010 listing items like dishes, SS inserts, stove and other things I would think you would want to keep and not re-purchase if you intended to re-open. "Shrug"

Ok folks, here's the deal. Let me clear some things up. 1) The building I leased had some equipment already there. Some of the equipment I owned. The equipment that I am selling is some of that equipment I have in the restaurant and some I had in storage from previous restaurants.
2) The reason I chose to close the restaurant was because my lease would be ending in a few more months and my and I had to make a decision. School starts back in August and then daylight saving time comes. These two events drop sales drasticly. I didn't want to renew my lease and spend another three years at this location so it made more since to be proactive and negotiate and early exit. The liquor laws in OC worked for me because I sold enough food. I never had a problem with my percentage. Our problem was we had no lunch or week night business. We were crazy busy on the weekends but that's not enough sales to pay the bills. You have to have enough sales to hit your break even point. You just cant do that on weekend sales. 3) We are still actively looking for a location in Jefferson county that would work and that has a reasonable lease payment but there is nothing out there right now like that. Everyone out there in the restaurant business is trying to do their part to survive in this economy by lowering their prices, offering two-fers and free kids meals on certain days but the landlords, electric companys, water companys and other services that restaurants need aren't helping. If I can find a place that will have a reasonable lease payment in an area where I can generate enough sales then I'll move on it. Haven't found it yet. I will let everyone know when I do. 4) Mom's Restaurant that is located currently in Pendleton will be taking possession of the old SOS building tomorrow. It will be two weeks to a month before she will be open. For those of you that are familiar with this restaurant, it is a breakfast, lunch and dinner country cookin style.
I've never been there but she seems to do a good business. I wish her luck. This is a big leap for her.

Steve,

We really enjoyed SOS and were one of your few weeknight diners. I'm glad to hear you will re-open eventually. Just let us know where and when and we'll be there. Hang in.

Wonder if the Carolina Seafood/Shrimp place is available? Not sure what the rent would be there, hopefully not astronomical.

Couldn't find any info with search if it is up for lease...

Wow! That is a big move for Mom's. She seems to do a good business there in Pendleton though, so maybe she's on to something. Do you know if she is moving or opening a second?

Hope you are able to find the right spot soon! Big love for SoS and can't wait to have it back, and closer.

It's such a shame that since Baptist Hospital has opened up this new large physical therapy outlet (right on the 329 by-pass) that we've lost 2 independent restaurants.

I'm confused. Did the hospital buy them out? What's one have to do with the other?

I was just thinking it's a shame the restaurants aren't still here to enjoy the business from this large concentration of day employees now working in the immediate area. It could have ramped up their lunch business.

I've stopped in at Mom's for breakfast on the way home from Cincy. The food was good. The pies I saw awaiting the lunch crowd had me wanting to stay a couple more hours..

I think there's always room for more "meat & 3" places as long as the food is good and not your average cafeteria slop or frozen entrees bought from GFC.

I spied an open location in Fern Creek recently, but it's already been snapped up. In the true Louisville tradition of identifying a place by prior occupants, it's the old Pizza Hut/Mexican place next to Hungry Pelican. Obviously it would not have been a good choice for SOS even though I've eaten at SOS enough to know they had a superior product. **curses those addictive hush puppies**

Anyone in the know have any info on that building now that it's sprouted a "leased" sign?

Carla,
I've been told by some of the Baptist Hospital employees that would visit us at night that they don't have that long for lunch and our location was a gamble for them. We are located on the other side of the train track and they couldn't take a chance on getting caught by the train. I didn't even think about that when we first opened but it is a factor.

Have you thought about Westport Village? After losing Macca's, they could use a really good seafood place. The trouble with Macca's is that they were too expensive. Son of a Sailor has them beat hands down on the food!

Hey, that might work! I wonder if it's empty because the landlord's rent expectations are too high. :( But it worked well for Carolina Shrimp, which stuck it out for, what, 10 years? And only closed because the owner died and his son didn't want to carry on the business, not because business wasn't good.
