I'll accept that, if you'll understand that it read like a reference to a rather recent discussion on relevance and newsworthiness of fluff pieces.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I'm absolutely delighted.

Also delighted, but wondering who the heck the Metro Hospitality Commission is so I don't fund the opposition.
The web site http://www.fightthesmokingban.com/metro ... lle_hc.htm won't name names, even on the Who We Are page, except the directors. They are from:
The Back Door Lounge
Pat's Steak House
JT's Variety Sports
O'Malley's Corner
DT's Bar & Grill
Seidenfaden Bar & Cafe
Kunz's Fourth & Market
Gerstle's Place
Roger's 19th Hole Pub
Wick's Pizza

Anyone have a listing of the others?

I don't know who the others against the ban are, but I can say that the atmosphere of Wick's on Goose Creek has improved dramatically since the ban went into effect.

It's not my favorite, but my daughter loves it, and I, reluctantly because of the disgusting odor of the whole place, have taken her in the past. I'll be much less reluctant now. I am also happy to see that a conspicuously pregnant employee doesn't have to breath that poison.

I lived in New York when the smoking ban went into effect there, and there was much grousing by bar owners (including a couple of friends who own in Williamsburg). Now that the ban is in effect in New York, and most are actually seeing business improve, the grousing has stopped.

At the suburban Goose Creek location, it's mostly families eating, and I predict that their business is going to improve now. We'll see if they're still against it when they see the cash coming in.

We went to Jim Porter's last night to see my old chum Rick Bartlett. It wasn't crowded, but it sure was nice! We danced for 2 sets without choking.

In similar fashion, I've had a burger at Granville Inn, a place that I would never go before, and lunch at Brendan's in St. Matthews, which wasn't quite as bad but still used to have real issues with clouds of blue escaping the bar into the dining area, and found both places much more enjoyable than before.

Let the record reflect loud and clear that for every one unreformed smoking addict who yells about NOT going out to dine any more, there are a LOT of us who will now consider places that we used to avoid.

Linda, what kind of crowd did they have?

Jon, it was an older, dancing crowd. Usually that way at Porter's on Friday, then the young people arrive around 1:30 and the DJ cranks up the music and it takes on another tone. I never could stay very late (smoke) The last time I played there was 2 years ago and I couldn't even talk for 2 days. A lot of good bands/musicians stopped playing there because of the hours and smoke. I hope it comes back bigger than ever, Ben Rodgers has been true to local, live music for years.

Last night, we went slumming in the 'hood and ended up at Dutch's Tavern. (Brendan's had a DJ) It had a good crowd. In fact, the entire BBC parking lot was packed. No sign of bad business, despite all the happenings this weekend.

We are dedicated to going to places we've avoided, including Joe's (Older than dirt). Cres fought the ban, but we used to enjoy going there to watch UL and UK. I usually spent time outside. We always wanted to watch games at Gerstles, too, but it was off limits. I hope more people make an effort to support local places!

I've heard that the first few weeks are usually fairly bad, but then it gets back to normal...the smokers can't hold out forever...they're just grumpy right now..

I will say that we had a show booked at the Pour Haus on Friday, and other than people there for the show it was a ghost town from 10pm on...

Totally agreed. I've been talking with my partner lately about good places to go see live music now that we won't have to choke while listening. I want to find out more about the "Louisville indie sound" and also try out the Jazz Factory.

Hasn't it been a non-smoking venue all along? Or am I oblivious?

Oblivious? Never. But, it was an early decision by Ken that I applaud (as do countless others!).

Thanks. I made a flawed assumption then. Not the first time.
