As a consumer, I wish that restaurants were open on July 4, Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc. It seems like, since most office workers are off work, restaurants and stores would be open. However, I have come to realize that, if I want to eat out on these kind of holidays, I have to eat at a chain, because most local restaurants aren't open.
That said, I think it depends on the location of your restaurant as to whether or not you will have business. For example, I can understand Meridian Cafe and Cafe Emilie being closed, because St. Matthews was absolutely dead today. However, when we went to lunch at City Cafe Baxter (which, fortunately, usually is open on these holidays-thanks Bernie), it was absolutely packed. I have never seen as many people there as I did today. Of course, a lot of those people were probably eating there and then going to the movies. But it does show that people do eat in restaurants, at least for lunch, on traditional "grilling" days.
