We enjoyed a wonderful meal last night at DiFabio's Casapela! Everything we had was fabulous from the stuffed baked mushroom caps and cheesy garlic bread apps to the flourless chocolate torte! I had the veal marsala which had a delicious, slightly sweet, sauce; my husband had the manicotti and my daughter had the lasagna, which both pronounced scrumptious! All entrees come with salad served family style. Pete, Laura, Caity and Sarah all came by to check on us throughout the meal. The prices are very reasonable for both food and wine. Under $100 for 2 apps, 3 entrees, 1 dessert, 1 soft drink, a bottle of the house red (Coppola Russo) and a generous tip. We WILL be back! :D :D :D
When in doubt, add more wine.

We are heading up tonight (in about an hour). I'll post how our experience goes with three kiddos.

Had a delightful meal at Difabios.

Went on Friday night at 8 and it was crowded but not packed.

The menu is SHORT.... one page houses everything.

There are a variety of delightful appetizers (we had the bruschetta, which came as toast with cheese and a bowl of garlicky tomatoes... it was great).

All entrees come with a house salad and breadsticks. The breadsticks are made in house and it shows in the taste.

The salad was great. A nice house italian dressing, lots of such, good croutons. Just a well made salad.

Between the four of us we ordered: Veal Marsala, Spaghetti with Pesto and Spring Vegetables (suggested by our vegetarian waiter for our vegetarian guest), Lasagna and Chicken Parmesan.

Both the Veal Marsala and Spaghetti were eaten with great gusto. I didn't try either but both received rave reviews.

The chicken parm and the lasagna were good, but not great. Both plates were happily finished, but the previous food (salad, appetizer, breadsticks) had set the bar high.

One of the things that I love most about Louisville is the variety of dessert options. I'm also on a diet for my upcoming wedding... I broke my diet to eat dessert.

It was worth it.

We split the Snickers Cheesecake and the Strawberry Lemon Buttercream cake.

Fresh, delightful, well executed... Both plates were cleaned with efficiency.

As a final note, the service, and in particular our waiter (Will) were phenomenal...

One of our guests was an hour late... he was patient and offered great recommendations when we ordered for our late guest. He really made the evening even better than it already was.

My fiance and I spent $50, including appetizers, dinner, a glass of wine and desserts (we tipped $15). It was $65 well spent and we look forward to going back.

Ditto...

I'm so feeling this homegrown, comfyfamilly Italian fare right now. Like, this very moment!

The menu was small. It was not the same one as listed on the website for the Indiana one, but I did expect it to be closer than what it was. In fairness, Sarah DID come out and offer to make the fried raviolis for my bf even though they are NOT on the Louisville menu. He decided against it because he didn't want to be a bother.
The cheese bread appetizer was on the smaller side, though tasty. The escargot had a fabulous flavor. I've never just had six snails in a skillet before though. My bf tasted one for the first time and really liked the flavor. He liked them so much so that he was asking me where we could buy some and cook them at home.
The bread is fantastic! Crusty little baguettes!! Super yummy!
The salad was GREAT! LOVE the dressing. The garbanzo beans were an interesting choice. The pickled onions were amazing on it.
He had spaghetti with the meat sauce. Lots of meat, little sauce. The noodles were cooked properly (al dente) which was a great find. I had the lasagna. The sauce was obviously homemade with attention. While the sauce with the caramelized onions was very good, the lasagna as a whole was nothing spectacular. It was a fine pasta dish, but nothing that would pull me back over and over again.
We didn't have dessert. Somewhere between the salad being cleared and our entrees arriving, we lost our VERY attentive and pleasant server. I can't remember his name (red hair, glasses), but he was super great.
Our bill was ok. It was certainly NOT sticker shock for two adults and three kids, and was quite reasonable.
Overall, while I did enjoy the meal it was nothing that excited me. I was kind of disappointted.
I am still searching for my "Italian home" in Louisville.

Go across the street to Volare. More expensive but excellent. Do NOT skip desert.

Stopped by here last night for a delightful Italian meal. Every thing was very well done. The menu is small but what they do they do well. I had the veal parmesan and it was the best version of this dish I've had in years. Pasta was cooked al dente and the marinara had a good rich depth of flavor. We loved the baked goat cheese appetizer. A bottle of Cigar Zin went well with the food and the price was right.

Thus far this is the best Italian place of this variety that we've been to since Mililo's. Obviously Volare is right across the street...but if I'm in the mood for a simple bowl of spaghetti this is a great alternative. These places are two different levels of food all together.

I got to eat there last week and forgot to post about it. Was disappointed the stuffed olives werent on the menu as had been on the menu I saw online. Tried their goat cheese appetizer, which tasted fine but I've got some stupid mental block about goat cheese that throttled my complete enjoyment. I do recommend it for those of you that dont have this hurdle. The girlfriend and I each had simple pasta dishes, me pesto her alfredo and it was spectacular. The Alfredo was almost 100% creamy with very little grit to it like most alfredo i've had in my life. Didnt get to have dessert as we were stuffed.
I am the original Mike G, never mind the impostor.

I am kind of a big deal.

Had a great class reunion in the backroom of DiFabio's. The Roasted Red Pepper Chicken was outstanding. Not sure how often they have it as a special, but it was a great dish.

Service was excellent for a crowded room, our waiter kept up with two tables and a variety of checks. Everyone managed to clean their plates, and some of us still had room for dessert.

The Red Velvet Whoopie Pie (with cheesecake bites and I think a homemade nutter butter) was awesome. I'm not sure when Whoopie Pies became a trend, but this is one bandwagon I'm happy to jump on.

My only complaint is I don't remember the name of the Malbec I ordered, as it was delightful and I plan on buying a bottle.

Thank you for the kind words Will, the wine you were drinking was more the likely called The Show. The only place I have seen it around here would be Westport Whiskey and Wine, but some of the larger wine stores may carry it as well.
