I vote for Danny Mac's Cheesesteak too.

When I go out for a sandwich I like to stop by Frank's Meats on Preston near the fairgrounds.
They make them good up there. I usually get a turkey on white, dressed, with salad dressing and pepper jack cheese. Yum!

Typically I wouldn't take a stand on a question like this, but this time I'll make an exception, while resisting the considerable temptation to lift an eyebrow at the Louisville-centric-ness of this thread.

Chef Josh Lehman's version of Croque Madame at Bank Street Brewhouse, which includes Black Forest Ham, Emmenteler Cheese, Mornay Sauce, and a Sunny Side Egg, is better than any Croque Madame I've ever had in Europe, period, hands down. And I've had a few.

So get your passports updated, get on the Interstate ... :D

Roger, I agree 100%. My wife and I (Crescent Hill residents) made the trip to New Albany a few weeks ago. She had the Croque Madame and.........wow........home run! Combine that with a pint of your great beer and..........

We'll be back.

I thought of this post when I read this article.

Ray W. wrote:Hmm...I am on the fence with this one...It's between Pho Binh Minh 's Banh Mi Thit...(If I may borrow a few words from Robin)...A small, crisp-crusted but light French-style baguette is split open to carry a load of red-ringed roast pork, crunchy bits of cucumber and carrot, and a couple of fiery rings of thin-sliced raw jalapeño (so hot that the wary might want to remove them before eating), lightly spread with a pink, not-too-spicy aioli-type dressing....Broke da mouth

I had never heard of this place until this thread, but thanks to Ray it will be in my regular rotation. I had the Bahn Mi Thit last night and it was awesome and only $3. They have got to be losing money on this deal. $3, are you kidding me!

Pho Binh Minh
6709 Strawberry Lane, Louisville, KY 40214-3035
(502) 375-9249‎

It is really close to Hoops, if you know where that is.

Yeah, I got hooked on Bahn Mi during my time in Honolulu...I saw a neon sign in the window of a restaurant with the words "Vietnamese Sandwiches" and I just had to satisfy my curiosity...So glad that I stepped outside of the "Jack in the Box" that day...PTP...and three dollars for such an incredible sandwich is well...incredible...Of course if I am gonna get a Bahn Mi I got to get a Vietnamese Iced Coffee (Preferably with Cafe du Monde French Roast Coffee) and a Vietnamese spring roll and a Vietnamese tapioca dessert...

We also had the pork "egg rolls" which were porktastic.
I loved the place.

Thanks for turning me on to Pho Binh Minh. Just had my first Banh Mi from there. I wish I had ordered two it was so good. :D :D :D If you like this sort of thing you can't do any better. Plus for 3 bucks you can't beat it.
Pho Binh Minh is in a little spot at the end of a strip mall right past the Humane Society on the left going south on Strawberry Ln. I can't wait to try some of their other offerings.

Honestly this is going to sound silly but I think the best sandwiches in town are served at WHOLE FOODS. They use fresh, crusty bread + fresh ingredients + and they toast it! I always get grilled chicken on ciabatta, cheese, spinach, cucumbers, a little tiny bit of mayo, honey mustard, tomato, chopped basil (they dont offer it on the menu but they find a way to get it for me - perks of being in a grocery store I presume!) and red onions. It's really, really, really good.
