I suppose some people's opinions about areas of town and whether or not they are progressive are relevant? But, only if it relates to to this restaurant. Right?

Look. From where I sit, it really does not matter about meat or not. You're going to have varying opinions; some on the extreme. Until people are able to see this is never going to change, they can debate eating shoelaces or not shoe laces till they are blue in the face.

- end rant -

Hey its me, Chili Pot woman. Here's what I am willing to do (want to appeal to as many demographics as possible). I will have my chef work on a vegetarian chili (does it need to be vegan?) and we will run it on special for a few days. I will let you all know what days. If it goes over well enough, we will add it to the menu. If it does't sell well, we can always offer it just one or two days a week. Thoughts?

I think that's a lovely offer, Cathy. Our little friendly forum uproar is certainly not binding on you, but your response betrays the kind of hands-on, caring management that leads to success.

Now, are you using organic, natural grass-fed, humanely raised meats in your chili? (JUST KIDDING!!!)

Obviously, the most important part is that the vegetarian chili needs to up to the standards of the rest of the offerings- not just something stuck on the menu so a place can say they have a vegetarian option- as I've been told many veg options appear to be.

Cathy- I'm sure you can come up with something great! If you are looking for inspiration for a starting point the Moosewood recipes tend to be very good in my opinion. Personally, I love some veg black bean chili- none of that tofu stuff- but I'm not a vegetarian.

Best of Luck with the Chili Pot!

Brian,

Most likely, but you'd be amazed at how many Meat or cheese items are "secret" ingredients in foods. Some chili's have cheeses in them ( frequently white chili is this way so that would not be vegan).

vegan cooking is way different from vegetarian cooking, IMO. When my sister came to visit and i tried to cook for her, it was almost impossible for me, she is a vegan. notice i said, for me. she whips up great food for her and her children, but it was really hard for me.

i would think that a vegetarian chili would be great, vegan might be too hard to pull off for someone that is not accustomed to cooking vegan. I think the fact that Cathy is willing to try it is great.

Hopefully you are one of the few buffoons that really believe what you say.
Why, if you were stranded on a street near Dixie Hwy or Cane Run Rd, you might as well put a gun to your head and pull the trigger. I mean, being anywhere near these trolls would be simply horrific.

I bet you would you like to have their mortgage business wouldn't you, teeth or no teeth :? :?

Do people really live in these places?? Really??

Is Preston Hwy a 3rd world country? Maybe it's Germantown or Bullitt County?

Please, show some respect the next time you post about an area of town.......regardless of where it is. You would be surprised who is out there :?

Brian Curl wrote:And we are speaking of an establishment out Preston near Outerloop, not exactly the progressive area of town. And curiously thinking, would Leah S patronize Chili Pot if they did offer veggie chili???? (not sure where she resides but my logical instincts are guessing it's no where near Preston/Outerloop)
