New restaurants- Get a web Site!

I have a suggestion for all the restaurant owners who post here on Louisville Hot Bytes:

Add a link to YOUR website in your signature block on these pages. Many times, I see one of you folks post about your restaurant but, if I want more info, I have to do a Google search to find your site.

Just a thought . . . .

As the guy who created and maintains http://www.menusoflouisville.com, I thought I should maybe enter into this chat session.
1. I thouroughly a agree that it's relatively cheap and easy to create a website. Mine was started for free when Microsoft was offering free domain registrations for those starting http://www.officelive.com accounts. Now it's $14.95 yr (http://smallbusiness.officelive.com/en-us/) for your domain (.com name) registration and the ability to compose the website online.
2. Although I'll post a menu online for someone (i.e. Al Watan) for the most part, I just supply links to the resturant sites, letting them worry about the content. If a restaurant owner wants a site and is too busy to get one up, I'm willing to use the tools from #1 above and get them started and even show them how to use the online tools themselves.
(Successfull Resturant owners are the hardest working, most dedicated and time constrained people I know. So it's understandable why so many fail to get even a simple web site posted).
3. Keeping a website current can be difficult... and I'm guilty. I just cleaned-up A- D of my site (adding AJ's Gyros in the process) and should finish the rest this weekend.
Any additions, deletions , dead or misdirected link notifications are welcome.

I find it disappointing people view restaurants in negative contexts without setting foot into the place.

For me, it's not viewing them in a negative context. It's having no context in which to view them.

It also tells us Kyle how much a restaurant is willing to invest in itself. A restaurant would never say, "Don't judge me because I didn't buy chairs for my restaurant. I have, after all, mad culinary skills!"

Yeah, that's great and all. Except. Tables and chairs are typically required to dine when eating at a restaurant. So, no, they wouldn't ever say it.

In addition, a restaurant may have a drawn out fancy website (most chains) and simply suck. THIS is the #1 I don't hold anything against places not having one; in regards to their business. Yes, it would have been more convenient to see a menu. That's a given, but no. I don't feel these people work any less hard than the person next door with the Web site that's been put together by a 23 year kid.

*And this is not a dig on hard working 23 year old kids. I'm merely using this case to illustrate my point.

As a man who knows a thing or two about websites -- I've talked to Robin about setting up a hands on seminar about building a website for restaurants. Websites based on Wordpress more specifically, which can be updated on the back end fairly easy with a bit of training.

Sounds like I need to get busy!

I'd guess that GoDaddy's Website Tonight is even easier.
