No problem Becky.....That's why I do what I do for a living. I love the fact that I get instant gratification for a job well done when I see people enjoying the food I've prepared.

BTW....I love the pot luck dinner Idea. If this event comes to light, I could provide some chafing dishes and disposable foil pans to keep things warm so we don't have to worry about where everyone could plug in a Crock-Pot or warmer.... :)

One other option for a venue thats cheap and often available is the Tap Room at Clay and Main. I think that this would/could be a kid friendly place. I have seen birthday parties in there with kids running around and what not. I also like the idea of "pot luck" style. Just wondering whos bringing the pot?
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

That sounds like a good idea to me. Count me in for whatever happens, provided its not around a block test.

I LIKE! I also much prefer the pot-luck concept. And even though the Tap Room on Main has hosted a previous function and may be viewed as a replay, it was a smash and gets my vote - couldn't be more centrally located and I bet they are willing - lots of space with a super comfy vibe. As far as votes for days of the week, I always like Sunday.

For those interested in a family friendly forum The Tap Room doesn't allow kids. Hiding 'em in the back room doesn't count.

Even if it's closed to the public for a private function? They did that for the BLT throwdown (or did they???), but there weren't any children so I can't say for sure.

I brought my son, Jackie. I was requested to keep him in the back room "out of sight" and out of the bar area. Not fair to him or the Tap Room so my wife picked him up. I don't fault the venue, just sayin' it would have been nice to know up front. Not that you would have recognized his "kidness"; he was almost 6 feet tall then and he is 6'-2" now at 12....and no, he doesn't know how to hold a basketball! I know alot of people don't have kids, or they are grown and gone, but my son has a fine palate and appreciation for good food and company that goes far beyond his chronological age. I encourage him to expand his food knowledge and would like to include all of us in the event. I also support the pot luck concept as I know that cooking is also a love of the bunch.

He is also an excellent dining companion, I would hate for him to be left out.

Ill check into that, but Im pretty sure as long you rent the whole space, kids are cool. As I recall at the BLT Throw down the Tap Room was also open to regular patrons that night.
Ill get a reply soon and if the kid thing works, Ill also get a price and availability.

This "offline" sounds wonderful, especially if everybody is leaning towards Dare to Care or Kentucky Harvest with cans of food for charity and of course a great cause.

If November is what everyone is looking at I would be more than happy to provide the venue. We have the space, electricity, tables, numerous chafers, we are very kid oriented ( all ages of course ) :D.
Live music is an option also if interested ?
Like the Shrimp n Grits Throwdown, we are not centrally located ex. ( Highlands ) so I do not know if we are to much out of the radar for some.
The Tap Room sounds great also, I am just putting this out there for another possible option.
Cheers

I've attended several private events AT BBC on Clay and we've been told children are not allowed on the premises. Whether or not that policy has changed since last I attended a function would be up to the current management.

I love the Tap Room, too, but - reminder: There are no kitchen facilities there. No stoves to heat stuff up, ovens to keep stuff warm or sinks to wash dishes in.

Still trying to put this thing together. Ed is checking on a site that will fit the bill, just need to make sure the date is available. More in the next day or two.

Yeah Steve the German-American club got back with me finally with another person to contact about prices. I'm thinkin the place may be a bit large for this and thus may be a little pricey. Keep us updated. :)

If it is a Sunday or Monday I would be happy to do anything I can to help out. Ed's venue is really nice, I hope it pans out.
