I had someone several months ago on their cell phone giving directions to someone that had the line " Just past the old Keg Liquors" while they were standing in my "new store".... which is about 16 feet away from where my old building used to be......

I asked them where they were giving direction to, and they said here and pointed to the ground. Technically they are correct, we are just past the old Keg Liquors

I was in a conversation just last week talking about the monkey riding the bike on top of the old Thornbury's toy store next to the old Sears building :)

I wonder how many miles that monkey rode during it's life time.
Loved going there on my birthday to get a free toy out of the toy chest.

I've always herad it as "Oh shlee" too.

The fun thing would be to call Havana Rumba and ask them what road their restaurant is on.

And I've still got some Thorny Bucks to redeem. I may put them with my Tumblebucks, and double my buying power. (Two times zero is still zero, right?)

Got a Schwinn 10 speed there in 1974. Still have it today. I wonder who has that monkey.

The dinner roll thread and this places-that-used-to-be-but-aren't-anymore thread reminded me of the tasty, tasty yeast rolls that Stewart's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stewart_Dry_Goods used to serve in their restaurants. Actually, the whole meal was much better than what can be had at the food courts in the malls now. (Setting the bar low, I know.)

I used to love eating at Stewart's Downtown. Didn't they have large pink banquets? Wearing my dress up shorts and slogging through the store with my grandmother and mom, it was a real treat to eat the chicken sandwich. The best I ever had. Then we got to go to a movie down the street at one of the great old theaters. That is when 4th street was really Live!
