Like Seviche, Vincenzo's, 610, Oakroom, Le Relais, and Equus. I think those would be expensive enough and well talked about enough to be considered.

hm.. that deduction is questionable at best, lets just wait and see for sure who it was.

People only say that when they work for one of the ones named. :P Besides I havent had a bad meal at anyone of those places and they are fairly expensive....Seviche isnt so expensive but people rave about it. Although, last time I was there everything tasted like the marinade they use for their tomatoes but it was all prepared fine.

Odd Experience #1 (Long Post)(Sorry it took so long - work got in the way!)
I talked three female friends (all of whom are not very adventurous eaters) into trying Seviche with me. The idea was to have Mojitos and dinner to celebrate one of the ladies' graduation from college (at 48) and a mid life career change! Upon being seated, we inquired about "Mojito Monday" The answer was rather vague, but we all got the impression that there was still a special on Mojitos on Monday. We ordered drinks and browsed the menu. So far, so good. I think the menu was a tad priceier than my three friend's thought it would be and they just couldn't picture eating anything not cooked over heat, so two ordered a chicken dish and the third ordered soup and salad. I ordered the hamachi sushi and oyster app as dinner. Remember, it's Monday night, there were only a handful of tables being served. Enough time went by that we were finished with our drinks and the chit chat had turned to "What happened to our server?" talk. Another ten min or so went by and she appeared at the next table, so we were able to flag her down and order more drinks. By now almost 45 min had gone by and we didn't have so much as a bread crumb yet. All three had soup coming, one had salad coming. Eventually a runner showed up with two soups and a salad. Well, granted we had had one drink (large Mojitos by the way) and were talking and having fun, so did not realize that the runner had given a salad to someone who had ordered soup and soup to the person who had ordered soup and salad as their meal. By this time switching would have not worked, as the one had already dipped into the soup. So, we figured "no problem!" When the server passes by we'll just get the other soup. However, by the time we saw the server, she was bringing our drinks (ordered forever ago) and enough time had passed that the one friend didn't want the soup any longer and the other friend had finished eating her entire meal! We brought the soup/salad mix up to the server's attention so the one friend would not be charged for soup and the server put her hands on her hips and said to the other friend "YOU ate her soup! You all got it mixed up!" My friend looked at the server and said "No, we didn't mix up anything, you didn't bring her soup! At this point the server tried to make a joke out of it all and went away (hopefully, at this point to get the rest of the food!)
Finally, food arrives, the other three of us are now trying to eat hurridly because one of us is just sitting, and by now it's 1 1/2 hours into dinner. The server did bring us a complimentary dessert (after we told her we were full and couldn't eat another bite), so of course we all ate at it to be nice and she comes up to us and says "Yeah, I thought you were full?" By now, we just wanted to go. So we get our tickets, along with a healthy dose of sticker shock! My tab for two drinks, one app and a sushi came to $45, with tip $54. We left with such sticker shock I didn't notice that the server forgot to give me my debit card back. When I called to see if it was there, the girl who waited on us said, "Oh yeah, it's here, I left it in the machine" Not once did she say she was sorry. I had to drive back the next day to pick it up and related the story to the management on duty. She apologized and gave me a $25 gift card. (Two Mojitos?)
Overall impression: Nice enough looking place, didn't make me ooohhh and aaahhh, food was ok, I've most certainly had better, way too overpriced for what I got, Havana Rumba and El Mundo make far better Mojitos - $10 each, not worth it at all. Oh, I was starving when I got home, best part of the night: Cold Tony Bombozz Pizza!

Hey! I've eaten at Seviche 400 times this week and never had anything but 4 star food and service! There must be something wrong with your tastebuds!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Carolyne- i cannot speak on behalf of the restaurant, but i do want to offer my personal sincere apology for what sounds like an awful experience.. i can assure you with confidence that this was not a reflection of the service and experience that Seviche prides itself on. i hope that you will give us another try sometime, and allow us to prove why we have so many loyal customers. Again, i am so sorry!

You said you can't speak for the restaurant but you hope she gives "US" another try to prove why "WE" have such loyal customers. hmmm. Was I right about "only people who work for one of those restaurants would say that." as well? That should be some bonus points or something. :P

So much to say and so slow to type....aaaarrrgggghhhh! Ok, first off, I didn't say anything about any of the food being bad. I just wasn't impressed. The yellow tail (hamachi) sushi was overwhelmed by the sauce. Couldn't taste the fish. But it wasn't awful, Iwould take anything on Maido's menu any day. The oysters were fine, not fantastic (gesh, I feel like Simon Cowell here). On top of the whole thing, the next day a friend called to book a reservation for a large group. They were going to have two small children with them. They were told that Seviche was not kid friendly. I see posts all the time from people who say their kids love the plcae! that's why I said it was an "odd experience" not bad! Before I get to the next story, I have to reply to John R. I have always loved Jack Fry's (noise and all) and Palermo is our other fav restaurant next to Maido.
Always great and worth every penny!

I said Seviche because it was one of those places that didnt live up to it's hype for me, not fair to the restaurant but it really didnt for me and as we can see, you. It was very good but didnt blow me away at all. Perception can be a killer. I wish everyone would tell me (just me) how bad a restaurant is, then I will be happy when it isnt as bad as they told me it was. I am very susceptable to suggestion. Just in a more opposing fashion.

I really like Jack Fry's and Palermo, I was just adding them to the list of possibilities. The other five is of more interest than the two I added.
