Who would have thought? A flurry of opinion in a chain thread? With open-minded comments from those actually in the business?

Why can't we behave ourselves when someone makes a post that doesn't fit some PC Foodie Rule Book that I must have missed when I signed up?

Why can't we respond to people questioning, or even critiquing, our own strongly worded posts, without sarcasm and rudeness?

Let me go on the record (again), I am getting sick of this ugliness. Seems like I can't log on without reading a thread that turns me off by the closeminded partisanship, instead of learning something I didn't already know about the talent and FOOD in this town. Sarcasm is my favourite tool, but jeez guys, talk, and if someone talks back, respond as the intelligent people who actually know something about the industry, even though many of us don't. And quit chosing sides just because the poster is a regular, just because someone is new (HRB?) or an even uglier exchange recently, doesn't mean the old-school poster is "right" or can't defend themselves. Or isn't just as ugly in return.

This is getting ridiculous. We don't need thesauri. We need to remember that this is for people who are passionate about food. If you want to get into morality comparisons, take it to another forum. For crying out loud.

Watch me kill this thread; it seems to be the trend.

Huh?

Never said I didn't drink coffee. But, thanks for the concern. The article was in relation to McDonald's iced-coffee initially posted by Adam. You're assuming I attempt to use it as a model for every product being sold.

I guess Im not clear on what the problem was. I went back and reread this thread and didnt find anything that really qualified as ugliness here.

Things did get a little snarky in one exchange between a couple of participants, but not quite enough to bring me out barking and yapping from under the porch.

I have found myself now and then recently wanting to remind people that this place is like a friendly bar with a lot of conversations going on, and it's really a good idea for folks to watch out about comments or tone that might start a fight in a real-world bar where they're face to face with their interlocutor. Just sayin'.

(You were not a party to any of this, John. I'm just responding to your post ... )

Thats pretty much the way I saw it as well...just a bit snarky. Thats why I thought the response seemed a bit over the top. I like the "bar" comparison as well. I find the Tap Room to be full of "snarky" folks, and thats just the way I like it. 8)

I'm truly not trying to defend McDonald's here, but if you examine the ingredients they are primarily additives to produce shelf-stable milk and cream (in this case milk that won't harm you if left at a temperature over 41 degrees). They are the same ingredients you will find in most restaurants that have those little containers of a tablespoonful of "milk" or "cream" at every table, just sitting out.

The scary thing isn't that, but rather the fact that Starbucks does NOT release its ingredients at all! You can go to their web site and find nutritional tables, but not ingredient lists. They will not say whether the product one can buy at the supermarket are identical to those sold in the stores or not, so you can't check that way either.

Since McDonald's products were designed to compete with Starbuck's but at a lower price point, there is a likelihood that the Starbucks products also contain the same ingredients - but nobody knows! Perhaps there is a barrista on-line who can answer the question?

And, as someone said earlier, McDonald's didn't design the product to compete with local coffee houses, but rather to take a percentage of Starbuck's business by offering a similar product at a lower price. Even from the quote from the coffee expert, the products are similar, and a large number of people are going for the less expensive McDonald's product rather than the very slightly superior Starbuck's.

ok...I went to McDs and i received my little iced mocha sample as did my daughter.

YUCK! BLEH! EWWWW! Really, and i think i am being nice about this. Let me describe what this tasted like to me:

You know when you have that leftover coffee sitting in your coffee pot that turns a bit strong/yucky flavor? Well this iced mocha tasted like that crap that sits in the coffee pot when you forget about it, or serve yourself at work or church and dont know its old. It seems like they took that, poured some ice in it, and squirted some melting gross whipped cream on top of it.

I am not a coffee connoisseur and i do not frequent coffee shops....i like to drink coffee at home, sometimes i buy fancy bagged coffee, but as i said, i am NOT a coffee expert. I am just giving the first thoughts that came to my mind when i tasted this.....

Edited to say: i am glad i DID NOT pay for this and nor will i EVER!

Several weeks back I had a coupon for a free on which I cashed in at a souther Indiana McD's in New Albany. Mine was actually pretty good. I wasn't expecting a great deal so I was pleasantly surprised. I might order another again in the future if the mood strikes but...

Thanks to others for reinforcing the purpose of my "over-the-top" yapping. As no one referred to my specific examples I offered for my concern (in recent posts, where the traffic hits indicate no one needed reminding), in which the snarky tones were out of line no matter what Tap Room one frequents, I am uncertain why my point was missed. But since it was made for me...

I would hope that I am not alone in my ideals of civilized back and forth, along with my passion for FOOD. Snarky to some, inflammatory to others. Enjoyable to???? Or just a reminder that the uninitiated can't comment without being called out and dismissed as an unruly canine??? I can only assume the tone of both John and Robin was the "good" kind of snarky.

My name is Reagan, by the way, and while I do have an adorable dog, I am more likely to be called Cat Lady. Meow. 8)

I hope it's not ultra-pasteurized! That stuff gets weird when you foam it. We got organic milk from Rainbow Blossom a couple of times (ages ago) to use in lattes, and didn't realize until we got it home that it was ultra-pasteurized. :P I'm sorry, I agree with you about the potential long-time health and other "green" issues with organics, but those lattes were just too damn strange for me.

Hey Robin,

I'm not sure what ultra-pasteurized is. But the organic we get is pasteurized, homogenized, just like any other milk you'd typically find in a grocery store. It seems to work just fine for steaming, etc. It can be a little tougher to steam at times (we're talking creating good microfoam here, and sufficient foam for a cappuccino), but a good barista can pull it off ..noooooo problem :D In fact, because it is all I work with, I think I'd just find non-organic milk to be easier. This is my "norm."

Cheers
