I have a problem with a few places serving buns as big as my face. Don't get me wrong; they are great. But, I like to see the burger.

Dan, your Juanita's comment was right on. I really think we just missed each other, again. Granted, I loved the eccentricities of the old Juanita's, but the new guys have made strides to improve quality and experience, without losing quality and experience. Granted, these trips are post-Rud or Mag Bar, but their burgers are great, no matter the time.

Granville for my day burger, but service is unfortunately long for lunch; plan on an evening, enjoy a good burger, and the chicken sandwich is also off the chain.

I know it's a chain, but I wish we did have a Whataburger or old-school A&W here. If you can't tell, I like onions...

wow....Whataburger's are down in the Valley where i am from. I LOVE them. They do get pricey for a fast-food burger, but for a really, really long time they were the ONLY fast food place open all night there. Then a few years ago, they got Jack in the Box. But, Whataburger is still wayyyy better. I would always get my "waterburger" (if you are from the valley) with a crazy amount of jalapenos!

reagan, you're in luck! there still is an old-school A&W in louisville! it's in the far reaches of valley station. take the gene snyder all the way down to the end and exit onto dixie highway. hang a left off the exit. go a couple few miles and you'll see it on your right. it's been there since my momma was a little girl. the last time i went in you could still get the root beer in a frosty glass mug.

:D Thanks Jessie- that trip isn't too far out, for a good burger. I was trying to explain both places to a coworker, who has never seen the "W"ish orange roof of a Whataburger, and didn't know A&W had a restaurant. I think I'll make Wyatt drive the trek, in order to improve my memories of hot summer Sunday car rides and yummy, greasy burgers.

Poor Steve, stuck in Ohhhh-klahoma, where they at least used to have a load of both. Y'all don't know soul-sucking heat and brittle despair till you stand in the cement streets of OK. And to his point and not this one, Rolling Rock is the EveryMan's premium non-package store beer there. I never got it, but the locals must know something, like Texans liking black hot coffee in the middle of the day.

Norman closed down their Whataburger (luckily, after my college, pre-legal drinking years) and turned it into a succession of restaurants, including the aptly named Atomic Burrito. To another chain burger, with my experience limited to the Whopper, I have to give props to the King. I read an article in a book that compared McDs to Burger King, simply from a production (unknown vs flame-broiled) output viewpoint and, mathematically, McDs blew the King away in output, as in billions and billions. Something in me admires an entity that refuses to cater to obvious numbers in lieu of maintaining the original concept of the meat. Also, I grew up on Army bases, and often the only non-Mom food was the AAFES Cafe or Burger King. Must be where I learned to like onions. Anybody else remember 99 cent Whoppers?

Oh yeah, and their commercials are cool (Vader!), creepy (I don't need to wake up with the King), but cool. 8)

I believe they still have a whopper jr for 99 cents. Been awhile but I have had it and it was pretty good.

I had a burger from Bunz (Baxter Avenue next door to Wick's) last night and it was fantastic. Double bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions, jalapeños, lettuce, tomato, pickles... All the burgers are doubles. It was a giant. With a soft drink and fries it was 9.60$. It was well worth it.

a silly question perhaps...the fact that you mentioned the king on army bases struck me. ft. campbell is the only base i've ever been on. but i noticed there that the burger king was on post and you had to leave to go get anything else. just wondering what's the deal with this? are they somehow affiliated or something?

Similar to most college campuses, the military contracts with food establishments to provide on base services. Back in my Navy days it was common for the contracts to be let to local providers and you could actually find some good food on base...Today I think they lean more towards national fast food establishments.
