Marsha,

Hey, don't know what to say, except "that sucks." I'm sure something good will turn up for you....Best wishes.

On fired employees still supporting a biz: I've only had to fire two employees from Ray's so far which is pretty good I think. And, both of them have come back in just to hang out and have a drink. So that is good. One can never be happy to lose a job, but hopefully as an owner one can treat employees well enough so that they respect you and your business, and like you on some level at least...

In any case best of luck getting things rolling again...wish we had an open position!

If only any of my employees showed this kind of class when leaving the business. You are one of a kind Marsha. Good luck on your next endeavor, I'm sure it is right around the corner.

Cafe Lou Lou's has not only lost a great confectionist, they've also lost a great public ambassador to this forum. I think perhaps Mr. Wallace and the gang have lost more than they realize.

People who are passionate about their work can sometimes create friction with management and co-workers. I'll take the passion every time! Do yourself and everyone of us a favor, take that passion with you to your new endeavors!

Good luck Marsha!

Best of luck to you! I really enjoy your writing from your 'insider's' perspective, and hope you can turn that into something great.

JD, Nimbus, Dana, Steve H and Todd, I appreciate it! I already have a few prospects, and of course somehow now my brain is getting me out of bed in the middle of the night to write new dessert ideas, so that can't be all bad.

I know everybody wishes me well - and if you want to send me a personal message please do, but let's let this thread sink softly off the first page now, please. It's been three days now and when I move on I'll start a new thread with a happier title, I promise!

While I am saddened by the departure of Marsha....I hate that the economy is so, so bad. Cafe Lou Lou, is one of the true gems of this city, and I make sure to dine in their "gallo's" at least 2-3 times a week.....As Marsha said, she'll bounce back, and I can't wait to find out where. Let's support both parties as we keep plodding through this crazy economy...

I went home this weekend, so I didn't hear about this until last night at the offline. Needless to say, I was shocked. Honestly, I can't think of Cafe Lou Lou without thinking of you. Even under these circumstances, you're still staying positive about them and even sort of promoting them. Honestly, the way you've handled this is truly noble, and CLL has lost more than they know by letting you go.

Praise aside, I really don't think there's any doubt amongst us that you'll bounce back. In the meantime, best of luck and take care.

Agreed!

So sorry to hear about this Marsha! And, yes, your determination to still support CLL is very commendable! Praying that you will get a job soon.

Of course, whenever someone loses their job it sucks. However, the bad experience can turn into a positive one. I am sure most restaurants in the area aren't hiring a dessert/pastry chef, so this could be a prime opportunity to get your gig rolling! Get your product out there! Make up some sweet goodness and take it to the Farmer's markets and get your name out there. I bet you would make a killing saturday morning on Bardstown Road and what a place to network. Look at Danny Mac steppping up to the plate! Make him a dessert he can produce and take advantage of that at other places in the area. Not many places can afford a fulltime baker; however, I am sure places would be willing to purchase product from you.

Don't let this bring you down, look at it as a growing opportunity. Good Luck!

I have a couple pizza dessert ideas that I've been tinkering with, but I've always wanted to sell the greatest cheesecake ever made.............

Ironically, I paid my first-ever visit to Cafe Lou Lou today (business lunch/meeting), and had the 10" Chicken BBQ Pizza...quite good, but the Jalapenos were a little over the top...BBQ Chx Pizza should have a more subdued flavor, and the peppers were a little too dominant (IMHO)....
