Tommy- Have you considered New Albany? The Speakeasy on State Street is a turn-key that would be perfect for what you want to do and New Albany is coming alive again. Just a thought...

How about the former Friday's accross from Ballard?

Be very careful of landlord/lease issues with the former Mazzoni's site in Middletown.

I think all of the locations named thus far have been great ideas. However, I have to be partial to either the Big Dave's location or New Albany. I'd really like to see more restaurants move into downtown New Albany, but at the same time Big Daves is very convenient. Good luck with wherever you choose!

The place where Mazzoni's closed? Did anything move in there?

We went by there yesterday and it's still vacant and it doesn't appear anybody is working on it. So it seems like it must still be available.

How about you try the South end, somewhere along Dixie, people out there have money that spends as well.

This is true, but for some reason, quite a few folks have tried "upscale" independent restaurants on Dixie, and none has ever survived more than a year. If Tommy wants to try it, good for him, but I would suggest considerable market research be done first.

It is 917 Baxter. Directly across the street from The Outlook Inn. The interior of the space was really cool.

Isn't the location Mazzoni's left on Shellbyville Rd. right up the street from the current Furlongs ?

Probably about 1.5 miles or so, it's almost at the intersection of Evergreen street.

I realize I'm a newbie on the forum, but I have to correct this misinformation.

I have lived in or around the Dixie corridor for decades. At least 3 decades to be exact.

And over those 3 decades I have never seen an "upscale" restaurant, much less an "upscale independent" restaurant ever locate in this corridor.

For at least 2 of those decades, the lack of sewers kept many fine eating establishments out of this area.

However, in the last 8 - 10 years, that has not been an issue.

What keeps restaurants from locating in the Dixie corridor are false impressions that it cannot support an "upscale" establishment, and those simply are not true. And that myth certainly has never been borne out by any restaurants attempting and failing.

At any rate, Dixie residents are eager for the opportunity to support one. We're tired of driving across the county to enjoy upscale atmosphere and cooking.

Shelley - welcome to the forum. Thanks for being plain about the dining situation out that way. Hopefully someday soon we can get a good fine-dining indie into that area.

You have a very good point Shelley. I really don't make it out to the Dixie Corridor very often, but I do have a couple of friends who grew up in that area. Now that you mention it, there really isn't much in the way of indie restaurants (except for perhaps an Indi's if memory serves me ), and I'm sure the area could support a few. I hope someone takes advantage of that in the future.

Also, I'd also like to welcome you to the forums. Hopefully we'll see more of you around here soon.
