I thought that was a given. That was my question,it seems most of us on this forum recognize how awful that place is...why then is wally world viewed as acceptable when it is equally heinous?
Its a shame that the dollars spent at both those places couldnt be spent with local merchants.
Gee, I couldnt think of a better way to spend the day than shopping for some cheap crap made by blind Chinese girls and then line up at the trough for a plate of slop at tgimccrappers.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

I'm not too bold to admit that I do in fact "enjoy" a few chain establishments. I'm quite partial to Steak and Shake, Culver's, Waffle House and the occasional White Castle.
For me, these places offer something that no one else is offering with the same flavor, consistency or price point.

We live in a world that craves - CRAVES! - tasks that are easy, uniform, and predictable. We hate the unknown. We hate change. We had having what we know be challenged. Add on top of that the fact that, for most people, the end-all, be-all is the financial bottom line (either out of necessity or some other reason). Add it all up and figuring out why Cheddar's is so popular is not very hard at all.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

If many more people have an experience like my wife did last week their popularity will quickly diminish! People's dining habits are very finicky and once they get burned at a restaurant their chance of going back diminishes greatly. Normally in the case of a chain people relate a bad experience at one location to the entire chain.

I couldn't agree with you more Matt.

I'm with you there. White Castles.... Yum,... to a point. And Waffle House is one of our favorite after-dancing haunts.... Bacon, egg and cheese sandwich with a waffle. Wowser. Of course it's also one of the last places on the planet that stays open that late, but still.... It's a tradition for us. Cheap dance hall, cheap beer, cheep after dance eats.... It all spells a great evening out for us (and as Gary keeps ruefully noting, we're snobs in almost every conceivable way).

I personally have a few chains I could not live without- mainly Qdoba. Another- Max & Ermas. I love M&E because of childhood memories of going there. It was a very special treat for a girl from the mountains. My husband still can't understand why I like going there. I think the no-chain sentiment in Louisville is simply because of the fact that it has one of the best local dining scenes this side of the Mississippi. Great food for great value. I don't see it as hating on every single chain out there.

Also, I don't shop at Wal-mart because of their business practices. I do shop at Costco so maybe that makes me a hypocrite. But I believe Costco, at the very least, markets a few local products.

Both Costco and Walmart are publicly traded companies and have about the same number of warehouse club stores.

Every time I see this post, I cannot help but to laugh. In my opinion, it is the equivalent of saying "walked on ice and fell." lol
