The suggestions listed so far have been great, but I do need to add Saffron's Persian Cuisine http://www.saffronsrestaurant.com/index.html IMHO they serve the best rack of lamb in town and the Salmon Barberry is a 180 take on salmon.

You also asked "Where can we find gourmet groceries other then Jerrys, Lotsa Pasta, and Whole Foods?" Have you tried Burger's Super Market, 1105 Ray Ave., or Fresh Market on Shelbyville? If you are looking for selection of homemade sausage, try Mike Best's Meat Market, 4894 Brownsboro Rd. They usually have at least twenty kinds of made from scratch sausage on hand at any time. They hand cut their meats. So does Butcher's Best in Prospect (9521C Hwy 42). For Asian foods, try Choi's, 607 Lyndon Lane; for seafood try Seafood Connection, 3941 Chenoweth Sq. or Highland Fish Market, 12121 Shelbyville Rd.

:? Last, but not least, (maybe I'm having a "senior moment") but what is Jerrys?

I second Burger's Market on Ray Avenue in the Cherokee Triangle. If I'm ever looking for some ingredient, and I strike out elsewhere, Burger's always comes through. They have never failed me. And they are the nicest people around.

Another vote for Burger's. They have at least two GREAT butchers there.

Don't know if this has been listed yet, but one of my favorites is Palermo Viejo. Great food, atmosphere and diverse crowd.

Duh! You're right, Amy. Palermo Viejo has not yet been mentioned. Not to take anything away for Saffron's, but I do agree with you that PV has "Great food, atmosphere and diverse crowd."

Lets just welcome the "transplants" and let them get their feet wet. My first year here was MISERABLE. After I confessed this to my mother in-law (also a transplant) she said to me "it will take 3 years for you to feel like you live here".
It's going on 12 and I love it here. The folks are great once they see you and you will find your way.

Don't forget Doll's Market at 3620 Brownsboro Road. Definitely agree about trying Mike Best's, great selection of meat and they'll cut anything you want.
