If some of you want to analyze this to death, that's your prerogative. This is an open forum and I censor only in the most extreme cases.

I would like to repeat, though, a statement I made above. I think it's important, and bears repetition:

This is terribly sad. Susan is a decent person and a longtime participant in this forum, and I'm very sorry to read of this trouble. I hope it's all cleared up in the end, and in the meantime I hope members of this community will feel compassion for her and offer her any form of support we may have to give.

This forum, particularly those who've chosen to become regular contributing members, is a community, almost an extended family of foodies. We often eat, break bread and pull cork together. I would hope than when one of us is in trouble, the rest of us would gather around to give whatever support we can.

My apologies, Robin. I certainly meant no offense, nor did I intend to "analyze [it] to death." I was simply trying to offer my, albeit very limited, knowledge of the procedure to help others understand what might actually be happening, since the words "arrested," indicted," and "arraigned" were being thrown around somewhat interchangeably.

It is a tragic and difficult circumstance for her and anyone else involved, I'm sure, and I had no intention of making light of that in any way.

Brad, to clarify, I in no way meant to single you out. Unfortunately, the nature of this forum makes it difficult to sort out message "threads" except via the quote function. I honestly meant my comments as a general sermon to the congregation and not specifically to you. Sorry if it didn't come across like that.

I suspect that the nature of this allegation will serve as a breeding ground for innuendo and rumor around the community; so perhaps best to just watch it unfold and trust in the judicial system to run a true course....

Maybe the innuendo that Trinity High School was responsible for the arson so they could advance their renovation can be laid to rest too. There was great acramony in the St Matthews community that this was the planned action because there was some discussion about the lease arrangements. I certainly hope , as a former and current customer, that matters are settled to all parties satisfaction.

Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

I'm on her side 100% at this point. Our legal system can be a bit crazy at times, and a lot of the trial goes on in the media (or the internet now)

Well stated, Nimbus!

My recommendation would be to stop the debate, and let the system play out. It may not be the best system, but it's the one we got!

After hearing which attorney that she has chosen, her prosecutors will have to break out the big guns if they expect a conviction. This guy is a take no prisoners bulldog, good choice Susan give em hell.

Sometimes, a great attorney can only prevent a bad situation from becoming worse; but she's innocent unless proven guilty and entitled to the best defense possible, so let it work through the system....

I have been asleep on this one, I have heard the news blurbs and such, was the motive supposedly insurance related? Otherwise, I would see no other reason for her to commit such a crime and therefore am inclined to view her as innocent until I see proof. Most business owners don't burn their life's work. If this isn't appropriate to be speculating as I am then I apologize. The whole story seems odd to me.
