Re: Tickets SOLD OUT for Shrimp & Grits Throwdown!

Wow, ok let me say that again, Wow.....I had to pinch myself just to make sure that I did not die and go to southern comfort heaven or to make sure that I was not in an altered state of mind. The flavors from the shrimp and grits played a symphony. While the spices had my taste buds dancing like there was no tomorrow. The tasting portions were a little larger than expected, which made it difficult to get through all of the participants. With a couple of rest periods, completion was achieved and my vote submitted. I would like to say, congratulations to The Windsor Restaurant of New Albany for first place. I will be making the drive across the river to sample more of their dishes. My personal favorite was a tie between the tamale shrimp and grits with the red-eyed gravy, from Big Spring Country Club and the citrus shrimp and grits with the candied orange zest, from Z's Fusion. The evening was a blast and a real bargain at 15.00 dollars per person. I would have been just as happy, if I had paid 50.00 dollars a person. Many thanks to all that were involved, putting on this incredible event. Sign me up for the next one.......

One last note, I feel that there were no losers last night. Every chef, every restaurant, every volunteer, was a WINNER
God Bless you all....

Last night was another fine example of how nice it is to live in and be an active part of a wonderful community.
I would like to thank everyone who came out. As always, it was good to see fellow forumites and to meet new faces to the names I recognize from here. My staff and I had a great time. Even though we didn't win(the competition was pretty stiff) we enjoyed all of positive feed back we got from those who sampled our entry. Robin, Will and Deb you deserve many props for taking the ball and running with this idea and turning it into the great event it was. We can't wait to do it again!!!!

Wow indeed!!! I believe we can call this event a success and my cholesterol count is all the better for it. Great to see so many folks come out and support the local economy, share some good times, meet and make some new friends and even network with others. Robin and the many others that organized this Throwdown really executed a first-class party and deserve many thanks and praise. Thank you very much.

I am hoping for a "Biscuits and Gravy Throwdown" somewhere down the road.

Anyone know what happened regarding the upcoming B&G competition at French Lick?

Below is the thread. It says Feb. 21, but I haven't heard anything more about it, like if any Louisville area restaurants are participating or if it's even still happening.

I know I thanked them personally but I wanted to give another praise for Steve, Will, Deb, Republic Beverage, Ecosteward and of course Louisville HotBytes.com.
Steve Bryant had the original post about the Shrimp & Grits throwdown, then of course Will came in with the charity for F.E.AT., and I was just honored to be able to supply the venue.
But it was Deb whom really organized and troubleshooted the event down to the last detail, also communicating with Republic on graphics and keeping Robin and us informed on daily progress. Once again I am blessed to make new friends during the charity event and most of all the cause that it went to .

Could not have put it better Dan.

Thanks so very much to Steve, Robin, Wes and especially to Deb. Your organizational skills just shine.

Big "Hats Off'" to all the fine entrants and their able support staffs.

Last but not least BRAVO to our fine foodie community (I tried Dan :) ).

Hey, the S&G's were awesome too.

I will add captions after dinner, which we're leaving for now. I have just spent the last hour wrestling with those images to resize them to post directly in this thread, with no success. Stay tuned!

Thanks for the kudos, guys.

I want to extend my thanks to Gary Fox for handling delivering the posters and tickets to the restaurants, despite the ice storm and a tree crashing thru his car( and keeping me sane when things got a little wild due to deadlines). And to Catherine Davidson, our server par excellence for the judges- your ability to stick to the schedule and "kick some butt" that night to get you thru the sell-out crowd resulted in flawless serving of the entries.

Thanks so much to both of you!
