stopped by friday and placed a to-go order of tacos (chorizo and tripe) and a burrito pastor. It was enough for 2 full meals at right around 10 bucks.

The chorizo came from a pre-packaged brand carried at the store, but was very good nonetheless. It was the first time I tried a tripe taco and I found it very enjoyable, very clean, well seasoned, great textures.

The stand out for me was the pastor burrito. It was seasoned with a slightly sweet/slightly spicy marinade and actually had the chunks of pineapple in the burrito, of which I was skeptical at first, but worked quite well. The burrito also contained smooth refried beans and was topped with a tasty red sauce and queso fresco.

Enjoyed with a Duvel and then a 90-minute.

The staff was fiendly, the food was good and well priced, and I will definitely be back. I also saw some guy's menudo while I was waiting, and it looked outstanding.

I have not seen it mentioned here, but Guanajuato on La Grange Road also has a tienda, carniceria, and taquieria. I have eaten at the taquieria a few times and found it to be rather good. I also like the grocery section at Guanajuato better. As an added bonus they have a tortilleria on site (not sure if Patria does this now or not). They sell bags of 30 fresh corn tortillas for a buck in the grocery. In my opinion these are much better than packaged brands. Second only to homemade ones served fresh.

Where exactly is this place?

I eat here regularly. It's by far and away my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area.

The lengua, barbacoa (lamb, when available), and carnitas are all incredible.

I'm guessing not, based on the address above. I assumed you all were talking about the same place as Mi Patria -- but it's over on Lyndon Lane, and not next to a BBQ place. My apologies :)

Adam,
no apology necessary. I thought you meant My Patria, but the thread right above your response turned to another tacqueria and I want to clarify which you meant.

i went again over the weekend and tried some enchiladas and another burrito. The enchiladas come 3 o an order and i tried the carne asada, pastor, and the lengua(tongue).

It was my first tongue experience  and it was quite good, very similar to a tender pot roast.

The star of the show for me was the burrito carnitas, although all of the meats were outstanding. I have trouble ranking the carnitas, carne asada, and pastor.

I drank a negro modelo while I waited for my carry out order, and then enjoyed my meal with a Heavy Seas Hop cubed and a St. Bernardus 12 when I got home.

Also, their tacos come with a green salsa that has quite a kick. I encourage it for fans of heat.

We were there on Sun. and had a few people get lit up by the "green sauce".

Are you sure it is Lamb? Barbacoa is more of a preparation than a certain meat from everything I've read. It can be lamb but it could be beef or even goat.

They have barbacoa at Las Gorditas Trailer but it is beef.

While barbacoa does refer to the preparation, the last few times I went to My Patria, they had written "Barbacoa--Lamb" on the menu board.

However, their menu describes their barbacoa as "steams and smokes beef"

Whatever it is, they have been out every time I've asked.

I have some relatives from Mexico and they line the bottom of an enormous pot with some type of leaves (not sure exactly what they are, but they get them at the Mexican grocery). Then they add half of a lamb and boil for a long while. The end result is what they call "barbacoa". Sorry I can't be more specific on the preparation, but it is tradition for them to make it overnight and serve around 11am on special occasions. I am only around for the end result. Typically we eat with corn tortillas, various types of salsa, avocado, onion, cilantro, and lime. They take the broth from the barbacoa and make a soup they call "consume", which contains veggies. It is also garnished with lime, cilantro, and onion. Anyway, when they say barbacoa they are referring to the preparation and end result.
