After experiencing both, I'd still choose Morton's over Pat's.

Does Equus still do the tableside made caesar salads?

I don't think Jack Fry's was mentioned because it's anything but quiet and romantic. I think we all thought that she was looking for something a little quieter and more romantic for a dinner with her boyfriend. That was also brought up as a reason Havana Rumba probably wouldn't work. I do agree however that the food there is always very good and although crowded and noisy the atmosphere is fun especially since the smoking ban was instituted.

She also needs to remember that issue goes to Pat's they will need to take cash since they don't take credit cards.

I'm informed, though, that Pat's has installed an ATM within the building. No idea what the bank fee for use of it is.

Yeah I missed the "quiet" part, though I do think Jack Fry's is pretty romantic, with the old pictures, low lighting and the gigantic bar. Generally I don't understand wanting to go to a quiet restaurant (though a quiet bar is another story), the social aspect of a crowded restaurant is part of the allure for me.

I have to agree. Jack Fry's is by no means quiet, but I do think it's romantic, sometimes. Often a quiet restaurant is a great thing, but a little lively ambiance can also be romantic. Of course, I've also hit JF's after a day at the track and been surrounded be similarly situated folks (a little woozy from the sun and cocktails), and it's definitely LOUD and NOT ROMANTIC. Other times, it's been spirited couples and small groups of friends surrounding us, and while noisy, it is romantic. With a dining room that small, whether or not the experience is romantic is really in the hands of your fellow diners.

No. And low talkers annoy me, see that other thread about wait staff.

Geez...ok...the bf decided since our other plans got changed by necessity that we should just go out TOMORROW NIGHT (NEW YEAR"S EVE!!) for our dinner since the sitter is already set, etc.

Do you know how ridiculous it is to try reservations tonight for tomorrow night? MANY places still have reservations available but are only serving their special menus. Corbett's 7 course menu sounds wonderful but is $100 per person. Equus is 5 courses for $85. Proof is alittle above that range, but their menu didn't appeal to me so much anyway. Limestone sounds nice still. I would have definitely reserved a table at Le Relais, but all reservations (even for a party of 2 late in the evening) are all booked. Doesn't look like that budget of $150 will cover it anywhere tomorrow night.

Suggestions? Especially from anyone (and alot here do) that work in the industry?

I suggest waiting until after New year's eve and then the prices might be more reasonable, and there would be less hubbub.

new years eve, valentines day, and derby weekend are, hands down, the 4 worst nights of the year for last minute reservations. with that in mind, do not abandon hope.
99% of the restaurants in town will be seating 2 completely booked turns tomorrow. most will be overbooked and have more tables than normal in their dining area(s).
getting a table in any premium place tomorrow is going to be a gamble. you should accept that up front. if you plan to sit at 8:00 or later, you can pretty much give up the idea of anything intimate or romantic.
if i were in your position, i would start making calls asap to see if anyone has openings between 5:00 and 7:30. they probably wont. but what MAY work to your advantage is that there are ALWAYS tables that dont show up for whatever reason. tables for 2 more than any other.
if you want to tip odds in your favor, i would suggest going to whatever place you make a final decision on at whatever time they are starting their first turn of the evening.
sit at the bar, have a drink, and have your boyfriend slip the host/hostess a $50 to get you in the 1st table that no-shows. even then you will have a 2-2 1/2 hour window that you WILL be expected to adhere to.
i wouldnt bother trying to coax people over the phone tomorrow for a table before service as most places have been booked for at least a month. already have their reservation assignments plotted, and will be receiving a call a second to fill requests exactly like yours.
those folks will fare no better.
this is not sarcasm, and i do not envy the position youre in.
i do not understand why anyone without an ace in the hole would think that they could get a reservation, last minute, on new years eve, at any place worth going to. never have, never will.
to be fair, though. it sounds to me like you got hosed and this situation is not your fault.
and for all i know, maybe your boyfriend has just such an ace.
good luck!

We could have gotten in to Equus, Corbett's, Palermo, Volare, Varnese, but we settled on Limestone. We have 9:15 reservations.

Thanks to all!
I'll definitely let you know how our experience was.

oh....Corbett's will probably be my destination for my bday dinner in a month or two.
