Things don't sound good for the future of Chicago Gyros.

After my sons basketball game this afternoon I got the hankering (southern term for you transplants) for a gyros from Chicago Gyros. Their being open when you arrive has always been "hit or miss", but this time there was a sign on the door from the landlord indicating he had tried to reach the operator in every possible way. The way the letter was framed it was like an "official" notice that the rent was overdue.

This guy has a good product but I am not sure he can weather the storm.

BTW, I have the same feeling about the Taco stand in Lyndon.

You know, I wonder if there isn't a bit more to it than that. I understand that folks don't eat out so much in tough economic times, but I also think it's likely that no matter how good the food is, if your customers don't know when you're open they'll be less likely to make the effort to return.

Unfortunately, with sole proprietorships the owner doesn't always have the employees to fill in when emergencies arise.

I don't know the goings on at Chicago Gyro right now, but I do know some outside parties were trying very hard to help them generate buisiness. Actually at no expense for the owner. For whatever reason, their efforts fell upon deaf ears. I hope this is the end for the current owner.

I'd still like to know what happened to Omar's. The BEST gyro I have ever put in my mouth. I used to go there for a late lunch when getting my hair cut, since it was LITERALLY right next door. Unfortunately, during late fall/early winter I went to go in and order my lunch, and the place had been shut down. It was a shame, every time I went by there, or stopped in to grab a bite, it was pretty full.

Well I just called Chicago Gyros up no answer and the voice mail box was full. While they were not my favorite in Louisville, I will miss them if they are indeed closed. My favorite in town is the gyros at Bosna Mak,3825 Bardstown rd,just around the corner from Derby city antique mall,I think the store front is actually on Bradford Dr. Right by Jasmine bakery. One of the other stand out gyros is the one at Sharoms.5637 outer loop. Lets support these guys before we lose another gyros spot.

And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.
