I personally love easy parking. For example, it's a total pain to try and get in El Mundo on busey night because there's no damn parking on Franfort Ave. I don't try as often as I used too. Bardstown Road is a bit easier.

As a bit of background...I lived on Lucia in the Highlands for about 10 years. I know that area and could navigate it blindfolded (I staggered home blind a few nights when I lived there too). When I married and began raising my family we moved just outside the Watterson off 42. We virtually never eat chains so it's the locals out this way or we make the trek into town. Unfortunately the economy is stuttering just as more and more locals move out my way. The dining scene has improved drastically over the past 3 or 4 years this side of the Watterson, I hope a few more brave souls like Chef Lamas will give it a go. So IMO it's not us versus them.....but then some of us are just mongrals.

Never have I been less enthused about a race. I know I seriously want to vote against one of these candidates. The only problem is I think I want to vote against the other one as well. I'm just looking forward to the last commercial I see from either candidate. I think there should be a national referendum to ban election commercials from soiling the purity ( ) of our national pastime.

While we're at it was also add political phone calls to the do not call list! I'm really getting tired of having the phone ring from a number I don't know (caller ID certainly helps) and knowing it's a political call.

With you all the way on that, Matthew. For me, though, this is one of those unusual years when I'm quite willing to vote the straight party ticket no matter who's on it. 'nuff said.

I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of an independent, but, I hope, the chef and employees will continue to do well on Bardstown.

Perhaps it isn't that the restaurant was located in a "suburban" area but that it was located in the wrong suburban area. My neighborhood is suburban, but is, in my opinion, underserved by restaurants. The people in my neighborhood have, in general, plenty of disposable income (I don't like talking about money, but this is a fact restaurant owners need to consider). Yet to get to a decent restaurant, you have to drive to Holiday Manor or St. Matthews. Where are the restaurants at the intersection of Chenoweth and Brownsboro? Or just inside the Watterson? There's a German place and Shady Lane, but there's room for more. Azalea closed and the structure is rapidly deteriorating.

Now, there's a story ... I'll bet the owners are letting it fall apart (much like the old Vogue property folks did) in hope of building a case for tearing down a historic property.

We ought to get over there, get some photos and blog the hell out of it.

Now THAT's a wager I would want in on. I bet anyone dollars to donuts that is what's going on there. It's a real shame too.

On another note, I think a lot of the reasons the chains are more popular in the 'burbs (outside the Watterson) is because I believe there are more families out there and the chains, in general, are more kid-friendly. I can't say for sure because I don't have kids and I rarely venture outside the Watterson loop unless it's to eat at my cousins' restaurant, the magnificant Corner Cafe (shameless plug). :D

The blurb in the CJ today said it would be closing within 30 days. So it's still open right now?

O'Bryan and I are truly saddened, nearly devastated by this news. We've had so, so many wonderful meals there, it felt like home every time we walked in. We just took our 11 year old daughter there on Sunday for her birthday dinner (we're proud to be raising a foodie), without knowing it could be our last meal there. I'm glad she got to experience it.

Gary and the rest of the staff were always great, and Anthony's amazing food kept us coming back, even after we'd had everything on the menu. Thank you for a great year... I wish it could have been longer. Those of us east of the Watterson have lost something very special.

Really sorry to read about Seviche (Goose Creek) closing. Love the Seviche Bar! Anthony, you were one of the 1st Indies to participate on our show (The DINING WITH STEVE! Show) and we appreciate that. The first time Steve (the host) visited Louisville, we (Maury from Insight and I) took him there for dinner (maybe you remember meeting him!). He had never had any type of seviche before and really enjoyed it. My Hubby and I will always be fans and continue to bring out-of-towners and new friends to the Bardstown Rd. location.

People ask me all the time why we put chains on The DINING WITH STEVE! Show - my job is to fill it up. We have bills to pay like everyone else. And we don't discount any less than Louisville Originals. We get email requests daily for indies - people actually give us lists and ask us to get them on the show. The fact is, times are tough - Yahoo.com recently reported an 1800% jump in searches for online coupons and, according to them, the most sought-after savings are for local restaurants. LOCAL RESTAURANTS, not chains. But people buy what's out there.

I wish I had enough time to read through all the postings. But if ever there was a time to "add to the pile" it's now. Anthony I'm so sorry Goose Creek is closing. For you, I know it's beyond disappointing. Here is the thing for me though....there's something to be said for having a choice. I live in St. Matthews, equal distance between both "stores". After supporting Goose Creek during the opening, I found myself driving to Bardstown Rd.'s dining room. I did this six or so times. Had there been no Bardstown Rd. would I have driven each time to Goose Creek, you bet. But since I had a choice, I opted for the original one. But again, that's in the past now and I applaud and salute you for endeavoring to bring Seviche to Goose Creek. Peace in the new year. CD

Anthony
So sorry to hear about your restaurant closing. My wife and I recently dined at the Bardstown Rd. location while were visiting from Chicago and everything was excellent as always. Best of luck with the original location. Unfortunately we can only help so often given the 300 mile commute.

Shannon Williams wrote:Robin, I agree with your general sentiment. It seems people out here want familiar, low-priced, semi-consistent Cisco food. (It's a HUGE generalization, I'm just saying that's for me, in my circle of people)

I find this line extremely confusing...I think that I know where Shannon is going, but the lineis loaded with error, in many ways.
