Add Frolio's Pizza and Pepper Shaker BBQ to the list. I doubt either can be blamed on the current economy. Frolio's was mediocre at best and a sign posted on their door cited back taxes owed to the KY Revenue Cabinet. Pepper Shaker did a decent lunch business but nothing after dark. I'll miss Pepper Shaker...the BBQ was good and the owner a really nice guy.

I am worried about La Perla de Pacifica nearby as I have driven past several times during prime dinner hours and the place was empty. Ditto for the Thai restaurant a bit farther our Preston as they do a great lunch business serving white collar workers, but nothing for dinner.

The real loss is what has happened to most Americans over the last 8 years. I lost my job. Has anyone else? Even if you haven't, has your lifestyle changed?

If you're contributing to a "foodie" forum your lifestyle can't be too bad.

this is simply not true for more reasons than i care to list

also, THE best food has and will always come from those that utilize what they have on hand to provide for their friends and loved ones
just because you have passion/interest/knowledge about food & beverage does not mean you live on easy street

imho

Didn't say a word about easy street. But if you are on a food forum...I have to assume you are eatting.

i take umbrage to your implication but am not small enough to take offense.
lots of folks with all sorts of interests are feeling the crunch. not just the ones with money.
assuming one is eating would only be assuming they are not starving, which would have no bearing on their 'lifestyle'
but you have the right to your opinion too.

I don't want to read to much into what you stated, but I can be sure not everyone who posts here makes oodles of money and hasn't had to cut back. Not long ago, a forumite conducted a poll concerning forumite demographics. This was not a scientific poll, but in case you missed it, please take a gander. While there do seem to be many people on the forum with well paying jobs, there are also quite a few on the lower end of the spectrum. At this moment, I happen to be one of them.

Now back to our regularly scheduled thread on restaurants going out of business. :(
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

Good point, Matt. I think we all need to recognize that dining out - and drinking well - are luxuries that may have to be cut back during hard economic times. This is nothing to be ashamed of, but it's something that foodies - particularly those of us who prize our small local and independent eateries - need to keep in mind.

It would be a shame if poverty keeps us from eating out entirely. But we need to be all about eating SMART, and eating LOCAL. That's nothing to argue about. :)

Ups and downs, but life goes on. I also can't discount my personal stress reduction program of things I cut out or down on: not believing what the drive-bys say, TV in general but racing in particular, and finding a way to laugh more at life/myself.

Love it, Brian. I share many of the same milestones you do. Got married, started a firm with great partners, moved to a new home I'm crazy about, worked hard for several nonprofit groups along the way - you know, the world isn't perfect and the economy isn't great, but life goes on. And the economy will improve - no doubt. And then we'll all eat at Corbett's more!

I think there is are a couple of important question that need to be asked. Which closings actually come as a surprise? And the ones that do come as a surprise to you, when was the last time you spent any of your money there?

The next three months are going to determine the fate of a few more of our independents. I know times are tight for many of us but it is during times like these that our locally owned establishments need us the most. I am not saying eat out more if you cannot afford to. I am saying when you do go out, don't spend your dollars at national chains. Take care of your own and help keep Louisville weird.

I think the forum part of this statement says way more than the food part. Having both the time and material conditions to post on an internet forum puts us all within a certain (yet still broad) demographic.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.
