Plus the nachos and the guac! It's just good.

I am the El Mundo queen, as I love that place! HOWEVER, the chips they serve are horrible. I always find it hard to believe that this place goes out on a limb and makes crazy mexican food that is delicious and then serves those god awful chips.

My vote for Mexican goes to El Paraiso.

I lived in Tucson for six years, and could practically stumble out my door and into a wonderful authentic mexican restaurant.

But I have a question for ya'll locals: what places in town serve the best "authentic" mexican food WITHOUT LARD. I know, I know, that makes it not really authentic, but as a vegetarian it sucks having to choose between the more "upscale" type places and the cheap places that do use lard in virtually everything.

Because of the sort of artsy and very lefty veggie friendly community in Tucson, a lot of the small joints don't use lard anymore. The flavor is ever so slightly different.

Any local insights? El Mundo and Los Aztecas are really all I'm very familiar with here.

Thanks!

I'm so glad someone asked this question because I would rather go to Taco Hell than most of the places around here. I wont set foot in Ernestos..bleck! I'll have to try La Rosita.

I'm with you--I lived in Phoenix, and have not yet found any Mexican restaurants in the area that compare. I would be thrilled to find something comparable.

I suggest you Phoenix guys try My Patria on Lyndon Lane. I can't guarantee no lard, and I can't guarantee that their regional cookery will exactly match the Mexican-American cookery of the Arizona/Mexico border. But authentic it is, and very, very good.

Hello Nimbus,

I own Bazo's Fresh Mexican Grill and I don't mean to brag about my own restaurant but why don't you come and try us out. I have lived in Phoenix for over 5 years and I am familiar with the kind of Mexican food served there. In fact "AuntChilladas" in Glendale was my favorite place to eat. Our food is quite comparable to the food you would find in Arizona and California.
Because we try to serve healthy Mexican food we do not use any lard or MSG in our food. Our meats don't come pre-cut or pre-marinated and our salsa's are made from fresh tomatoes that are roasted on site to give them the best aroma, body and flavor.

Here is the address to the restaurant
4014 Dutchmans Lane
Louisville KY 40207
502-899-9600

If you have any other questions PM me or call me at 502-644-6378

See you soon!
