Hey TumbleWeeds steaks are really good. The T-Bone grilled over Mesquite Fire would hit the spot....

Look down your nose if you must, but I think TR's quality is just as good, if not better, than anyone else serving an identical grade of beef.

I've been to places where you can get a steak dinner and all the fixin's for under $20 and I've been to the nicest places in town. The main difference is the service and ambience. There may be a slight difference in the quality of the beef, but is that difference really worth $100 just for the meat alone? To me it's not, bit for that special night out or such things as that, the ambience and service may be worth the stratospheric prices.
Hey Doogy- I've got a Creekstone Angus Sirloin with all the trimmings for $18 and I'd put it up against anyplace in town! Stop in and I'll buy you one on me! That offer also holds true for Robert as well-Dave

Best steak I ever had was about $12.00 at Bad Brad's BBQ Joint in Pawhuska, OK. On Fri/Sat nights Brad's in the parking lot grilling steaks. The cowboys drive into town. Gosh that was some good eatin'.

I've eaten my share of expensive steaks, including at least three at the truly high-end places. I had a very good steak at the original Morton's in Chicago, a very good steak at Z's, and an utterly forgettable one at Ruth's Chris in Orlando.

My tactic is to order things at restaurants in their strike zone. I'm not above Bob Evans, but I won't order a steak there for $8. Sausage and eggs--that's okay. At a place like Texas Roadhouse, I wouldn't order a filet (do they offer one?) since I can't imagine that they could sell a quality one in their price range. I can get a passable rib-eye, though.

But if I want a top grade piece of meet, free of tenderizers and other cheats, then I'm off to Z's or the like. It also means I don't do it that often.

BTW, I almost forgot. The best steak I've had in Louisville is at Palermo Viejo, and it is much cheaper than the premium steak houses. For $14-18 you can have the best steak in town, IMHO. Not much more than Tumbleweed or Texas Roadhouse.

Indeed.....Good catch Robert! Damn good meat too! I've had a bunch of purveyors try and steer me away from it but it's too good.

For the record, the Creekstone Angus steak I had at BNA on my review visit was, I believe, the best steak I have ever eaten in my life. Anywhere.

I believe that would compromise Robin's journalistic integrity.

Oh Robin . . .

Oh Robin . . .

Uh oh, I think he's already on the road to New Albany.

I'd say it was a combination of beef quality - Creekstone really is extremely fine beef - and preparation. Remember, Chef Dave has some experience behind a meat counter, too ...

Dave, I'm not a gold digger, but I would like to take you up on your offer. Let me know when and where. Heck, maybe Robert will join us as well. In addition to your offer, I challenge Robert to come over there with me and get his steak done medium well instead of well done. So, let's see what happens.

There's quality, and then there's QUALITY.

Well, "tastes just fine" is a matter of palette, of course. There's quality, and then there's QUALITY.

Then there's just being prudent enough to know the difference between each and paying a fair price for a nice steak dinner. All of us cannot afford a triple digit meal out on the town.
