If you don't mind the drive. Kurtz Restaurant in Bardstown has excellent down home food that is made from scratch for lunch and dinner. It is right acros from My Old Kentucky Home Park in a historic home. Although they do not do breakfast, which means no biscits and gravy, they have excellent frie chicken, sides served family style, and fried cornbread. I definetly recommend if you would like a nice drive or some very good country cooking.

How ironic - we had to unexpectedly drive through this area right after I read this post, and I saw the sign for Dimitri's! I was reading a book, and just happened to look up in time to see it. We didn't have time to stop then, but would like to try it out. Is it the classic east coast Greek diner? Sounds like it. My sister lives on Long Island, and I love the diners in her area. We actually stumbled on one last summer in some small town in Michigan while meandering on vacation, and had a Greek Scramble breakfast that could probably have fed a family of 4! Oh, it was so good! I so wish Louisvile had some Greek diners, but I'm loving this thread!

I agree-Greek diners really are the best. Lived in NYC for over 14 years and loved that just about on every corner there was either a good deli, pizza or diner. But any diner/eatery which has food made with love works for me...

I'm glad that Amy can still find something to enjoy at Claudia Sanders', I wish I could say the same thing. It is a mere shadow of itself, post fire. It has taken on a tour bus stop attitude with the food. Again, I am glad that Amy finds something good to like, just don't get your hopes up for the glorious food it once was.

I miss the old Mins (I think we all called it Dirty Mins) when it was over on Brownsboro Rd or Story Ave. The steam table operation. I remember getting any meat (usually fried chicken or fish , meat-loaf, liver ) and 2 veggies and bread and a drink for something really stupid like $1.99 . Granted , it was 30 years ago but that was cheap even for then. It's not really the pricing I miss though, it's the atmosphere. All warm with steamed windows and walking through the kitchen to get to the dining room. Almost like some back road restaurant in Europe somewhere.

Dirty Mins!!! Gosh I'd almost forgotten that place. I miss walking through the kitchen and greeting all the staff on my way to the back room. That was a Sunday lunch staple when I was in college. They had great mashed potatos. Now I'm feeling old.

When I worked at Actor's Theatre many years ago Min's was a mainstay. Years later in NYC whenever I ran into another actor who had worked The Ville, Min's was one of the first places mentioned. Really good German Potato Salad as I recall.

Just got back from some having some great comfort food at the Goose Creek Diner which reminds me of the old Dipperwell in Middletown. Has anyone been to Check's after the rehab cleaned it up?

Yes. The bean soup, cheeseburger and fries - my go-to order - haven't changed. The place still carries the original ambiance, despite the rehab.

My mom and dad used to take us to Dirty Min's all the time when we were kids. We actually got pulled over on our way there to eat dinner once, because my brother was in the back flipping off a police officer. I remember those fried apples. Just....yum.
