I'm pretty sure that's not in St. Matthews

You could be right, that was what my youtube search came up with. I'm with Robin, I want to see this. So bummed I missed it. Anyone got real footage of this crazy riot?? Tell me it's not just a bunch of media fluff! :(

Not at our Mall. This is a video that has been going around the net for a while. I believe it was in Florida. There has been an upswing of fights, thefts and property damage at Mall St. Matthews for the last few months, but the PD soft-pedaled it.

That's not St. Matthews. It's a sketchy source, and one of the commenters called it: "Wrong video...this is a clip from a brawl outside of a Florida mall. get it together 'Media Live'."

Even as we speak, the Mall managers, St Matthews cops and city hall and the media (including the CJ) are walking back the scare story as fast as they can walk.

Word of mouth, or is there any way to actually, you know, confirm that?

There was a very low-key news article about how St. Matthews PD upping patrols there. I also have sources in the public safety community that have talked about it.

Fair enough, but I think a new narrative is emerging in with SMPD doesn't look so good. :( (Remind me why it was that we agreed to leave the little cities and their rent-a-cops out when the city and county merged?)

Is Norm Mayer, former LPD assistant chief, still the chief of SMPD?

OK. Let's get back to the original premise of this post.

Which mall food court has the best fast 'food' Chinese?

Is there any food in the food courts worth going after?

Based on what I read and the radio transmissions that were released, I think they did a great job, asked for help, did not escalate the situation, got transport for the minors. I have been involved in similar incidents with EMS and the smallest thing can set things off. Those calling for mass arrests have no idea the logistics of charging minors. Most charges would have been misdemeanors (Youth Corrections only takes felonies), which means keeping them in custody until a responsible adult can get them. The number of officers needed to stay with the minors would have been as many as responded, if not more and where do you keep them?

Yes, Norm is still the chief. Actually, SMPD is a very professional department, a lot of their officers are former LMPD. St. Matthews is a 2nd or 3rd class city, not a sub-division calling itself a city. Don't get me started about what was allowed during merger....!

Probably for the same silly reason that we allow the Sheriff's Department to remain a politically run good old boy Police Department instead of merging it into Metro PD. Of course I really don't see where we gained anything with merger except for the fact that those of us who live in the old areas that were unincorporated prior to merger now have to pay additional taxes to help the USD have all the extra police protection they use.

Sorry about going off topic but Metro merger and places that are not accessible are 2 of my pet peeves!

I rarely go to the malls, but my son just started working at the Oxmoor Starbucks, and when I dropped him off the other day I saw that they had a pita place. I didn't eat there, but the menu sounded good so I'll probably try it out soon. I don't even know if Oxmoor still has an actual food court.

I wouldn't mind knowing the answers to those questions, Richard, but I can't remember the last time I ate in a mall food court. Talking overall mall food, though, I'd say Oxmoor for the win because Yang Kee, with CPK and BJ's worth mention. I generally think of Oxmoor in terms of an Apple Store - Yang Kee run.

The Chinese place in the food court at 4th st live once made me a bunch of off-menu stuff that was real good. I was with a cousin of theirs, though, so not sure if you can just walk up and demand bok choi. They have a family connection to the folks that run Peking City Bistro, IIRC.
