Back in the '90s, I had a job that required me to travel to all 50 states, and I drove rental cars, mostly, in every single one of them. I was fascinated to discover that the worst, meanest driving tended to occur not in the Deep South but the "Rustbelt," particularly around the Great Lakes. Northern Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, and then it got even worse in Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota. It's like getting behind the wheel leached the souls right out of some of those people.![]()
I lived in Outer Borough NYC (Queens) and often drove, and we'd frequently run up to Boston and drive there. New Yorkers are pussycats on wheels, and even the notorious Boston drivers just didn't seem to have the mean streak that afflicted the folks in Snow Country.
