I indulged in my love of strange new meats on Wednesday, along with some duck fat sweet potato fries. I have to say that it was incredible all the way around. We got four meatballs (to call them a sampler is to do them no justice because they're as big as some place's burger patties) of antelope, ostrich, kangaroo, and the wagyu (they were out of the wild boar). I have to admit that I loved all of them, but the only ones I could probably eat a whole hamburger of were the antelope and the wagyu beef (of course). The presentation was really cool, the meatballs were perfect, the accompanying mayo/sweet sauce combo worked brilliantly, and I was very impressed.

Also, as to the desserts, we split a fair-sized wedge of the beer cheese cheesecake (made with stout). That was phenomenal. I like cheesecake anyway, but that was just... stunning. Nice and rich, very firm cake, delicious pretzel (!) crust on the bottom, good chocolate sauce on the top. The stout gave the cake a delicious smoky taste that went along really well with the sweetness of the cake and the salty crunch of the pretzels. When it is the stand-out bit of a seriously great meal, you know it's cheesecake done right.

Get there early, park across the street, and definitely try as much as you can afford to. This concept might be better than Hammerheads.

They're also supposed to get a PETA protest, I heard. May just be a rumor as I don't associate with those unsavory types. May have already happened, for all I know. Still, as Maddox once said, "For every animal you don't eat, I'm going to eat three."

PETA is lazy. If they want to make a difference then they should start a vegan restaurant that blows Game out of the water. Beat someone in the free market and they will go out of business. 8)

PETA? What would People Eating Tasty Animals protest a restaurant named Game?

I agree to certain extent. Tell me why a plant based diet is good rather than screaming at this one restaurant calling everyone names or "inform" patrons with gory propaganda that does neither inform nor inspire. Seems to be the easy way out. I like to put in the work and make stuff happen rather than simply tell someone how wrong they are. That's too easy. Wanna change the surroundings? Work and make something you love and bring it in to the world. Tell me what you love, not what you hate.

Also, why just Game? There are dozens of local restaurants serving fois gras..

Adam C, you are totally right. That is exactly my point. Don't just HATE, CREATE! If you have a better idea, put it into practice. Show by example, don't heckle from the side lines. Adam and Chase are doing something, they think is right. This isn't KFC, these people are standing in front of. These are people who live and work in our community. They are people trying to improve the local restaurant scene, economy, and their families. I get being passionate about animals and wanting to change bad practices, just do it in a more positivie way.

FACT: PETA kills more animals every year than any other single organization in the country.
"What!?!", you say.
Its true. They run a number of shelters across the US on a contracted basis and use euthanasia just like every other shelter does. In fact given their high rates of euthanasia some might even say they relish it.
on average based on their filings with the Dept of Ag in the states in which they operate they routinely kill more than 95% of the animals left in their care.

Dont buy into their BS.

One of the camouflage-clad diner/photographers had a sidearm holstered to his belt. At least one other patron, that'd be this editor, was uneasy, sitting with his family, with a guy openly packing heat two tables away. It was unclear what frightened the man so much that he felt compelled to carry a firearm.

That perfectly captures the depth of the chasm between the two sides on the gun control debate. And the lack of understanding either side has of the other.

Game

Did someone say camel? Oh yes we did! Tonights special is served on pretzel with a smokey mint taziki, lettuce and tomatoes. Also, come in and try our local farm house cheese plate!

Agreed.

But one thing about that chasm. Whether people agree or disagree with PETA (nearly) everyone is in agreement that them protesting is their right, it is them using one of their fundamental protected constitutional rights. No one accuses them of protesting out of fear. Yet when someone else uses one of their fundamental protected constitutional rights (and whatever one may say about the clarity of the 2nd amendment to the US Constitution, the KY Constitution is very, very, very clear* about open carry) motives like "frightened" are ascribed to them.

*From Section 1 of the KY Bill of Rights:
All men are, by nature, free and equal, and have certain inherent and inalienable rights, among which may be reckoned: ... Seventh: The right to bear arms in defense of themselves and of the State, subject to the power of the General Assembly to enact laws to prevent persons from carrying concealed weapons.

And more on-topic, I ate at Game last over the weekend. I have a good, bad and ugly review.

First, the good: Everything that happened after we were seated. Our waiter was excellent and the food was awesome. I will be back, the stuff below (with one exception) is just nitpicking.

Bad: and this didnt really bother me, but with what is coming below I figured I would set things up. Our wait was going to be 30-45 minutes (fine) so we went to the bar and had a seat to get a beer before dinner. Oh, and lets add this back up the good section, the beer selection was very nice. I had a Saison Dupont, which thinking back on it, would probably gone better WITH the meal than what I had, but that is beside the point. Saison Dupont is a very good pairing for game, IMO. Anyway, back to the bad, the bartender asked us if we were eating at the bar or waiting on a table, if we were waiting, we could order a beer, but we couldnt stay seated if someone wanting to eat at the bar wanted the seats. This may be policy other places and I dont have a problem with it, but no one has ever bluntly said that to me before. We got our beers then paid (see below) then stood and let some others have those seats.

Ugly: Paying for my beer. Bartender told us that $10 credit card min and that if just paying for 1 beer, had to be in cash. That was fine, as I was paying in cash anyway. $7 Saison Dupont came to $7.42, I handed him a $20. He asks me how much I want back....uh, what? He said they didnt have any change, so let me know how much I wanted back, I said I hadnt figured that yet, he then broke down my $20 and gave me $20 back and I ended up paying him $9. Personally, that was more than I wanted to tip (in other circumstances, that would be fine, but I was a little peeved) but $8 was way too small. I get not wanting to deal with fiddling change at the bar, but if that is the case, charge me $7 like many places do at the bar, not $7.42. I wanted $12.58 back. And from that I would have tipped, either $1.25 or $1.50. Or maybe $1.58 like I did. Maybe Im overreacting, but how can you not have something as fundamental as change available if you are going to charge sales tax instead of building it into the price like many bars do? Isnt stocking the change drawer retail 101?

Sounds to me as if those service issues I mentioned from some weeks ago still havent been worked out. Guess I wont be back in very soon and will just stick with Hammerheads.
