Are you a regular, James? To be honest, I hadn't been, and had to look it up to remember what/where it is. I wonder if it's not a target for me because it's a ch- ch- chain or because the 400 block of Fourth isn't on my regular rounds. What's your opinion of Zoup?

No, Robin, I haven't been there. I was watching to see if anyone would make a convincing argument to pay a visit.

Dang! If nobody does, one of us might have to take a bullet for the team ...

Didn't there used to be another soup chain called Soupy's, with maybe an outlet on Westport Road out front of the Kmart?

There was one Soupy's left on Breckenridge in McMahan Plaza. It was razed very recently. Too bad for they had an excellent veggie burger. I only had the soup once so I can't speak on that.

The former Soupy's in McMahan plaza lives. The signs were stripped off, the intact building jacked up and placed on a flat bed.and moved somewhere. Look for it in a neighborhood near you. The renovation of the McMahan Plaza and Kroger expansion has begun. The signs have been removed from the stores in the strip perpendicular to Kroger.

Thanks for that update. As I stated earlier, their veggie burgers were really good.

Seviche usually has a soup of the day, and it's always a highlight of the meal for me. Usually very spicy, though--maybe not so good for those raw tooth sockets?

I haven't been in a while, but I always found Molly Malone's soup to be very good. They generally have potato leek soup along with another that changes daily.

I like Zoup. I hadn't brought it up because it's a chain. They do have a ton of soup though and it's easy to find allergy-friendly items. And you can sample any soup you want before you order it.

Thanks for bringing it up, Kari. Yes, I do have a preferential option for indie locals - I think supporting them is the right thing to do. But that doesn't mean we should ignore chains when they offer something we want or need.

I've been to Zoup several times, and have found most of their offerings quite tasty. They offer 12 soups every day and rotate them, so they must have a ton of different choices available. They'll give you samples of anything you want to try, so there's no excuse for ordering something you don't end up liking.

my chef, robert gruber, makes amazing soups. he made a killer white chilli early last week, followed that up with cheesy potato and andouille. in honor of halloween, this week we will feature pumpkin chipotle bisque... too good. of course, everytime i drive past august moon, i have to fight the urge to pop in and get the hot and sour soup...

I have been to Zoup (across from Hyatt on Fourth St., next to the new Jamba Juice) for lunch several times since it is near my office. I love it; the people are very friendly and eager to offer samples of any of their 12 selections that interest you. The varieties change each day. It is a franchise; the owner has waited on me several times when I have been there in the evening picking up a quart of soup to take home. They are open until about 7 so a good option for picking something up for dinner. I will try to go by in the next day or two and get a sampling of some of the options. One I had recently that I really enjoyed was a lemon lentil soup.
