It's already hard to get a parking place any time I try to get coffee there. And even more hipsters? Oh no...

Silly folks...everyone knows hipsters don't drive. They ride fixies and skateboards.

Jeff,
  .
Actually with UO's very expensive pricing, expect alot of nicer cars. My daughter loves their stuff but can only afford an item or so a year and then, on-sale. ( shirts are $50+).

I would like to to point out, since it has been brought up here before, that I have recently learned from other websites (in particular a thread on reddit) that Chick-fil-a has never directly been involved in any anti-gay-rights agenda. They do donate money to Christian organizations and some of these organization may have a "pro-family" agenda as part of their MO, but what christian organization doesn't.

From what I read many openly gay people happily work for chick-fil-a, and the organizations they donate to are providing money to schools, community aid etc which benefits everyone in the community...lbgt, black, white, poor, whoever.

So, FYI if you are boycotting Chick-fil-a based on their supposed anti-gay agenda you may have been misled. Full disclosure I am a pro-gay-rights athiest and have no association with Chick-fil-a. I do like their food compared to other fast food restaurants so I will continue to eat there regardless of the fact that I am at odds with their religious affiliation.

I think you bring up a good point that applies to some of what Robin was saying earlier in the thread.

A distinction should be made between business practices and what is done with profits. There is a big difference between, say, discriminating against gays in hiring vs an owner donating money to groups that may have an anti-gay agenda. IMO, once the money clears the corporation, its none of my business. Its part of the reason Im not a fan or corporations donating money to any causes. It generally should be left to the individual owners to decide what or if to donate. The problem is sometimes tax law makes it more beneficial for the donation to occur on the corporate side of the line. But that is a much bigger issue.

Or maybe not..nice Urban Outfitters add on your website. Hypocrite.

And I am not interested in how you have no control of what Google Adds displays. Bottom line...you profit off what you act like you are morally against.

So per Robin's own advice, please boycott Louisville Hotbytes and all it's advertisers and all the local restaurants that post here, if you support Gay Rights.

I can't wait to put on my UO shorts and shirt tomorrow and hit a chain restaurant for lunch. I think I'll read the Courier-Journal will I wait for my food to arrive.

Much to Robin's credit, I view this as a forum where opposing viewpoints are welcome. As such, I had absolutely no problem with the UO Google AdSense ads posted on a forum where UO was being discussed. And, yes, I know he has since blocked the UO ads.

As for the chains... I think most people here, including myself, who generally opt to shop/eat at non-chains when possible have no issue with other people who don't.

Chick-fil-a is much more problematic than you are suggesting. True, they donate to "Christian organizations" rather than to strictly anti-gay organizations, but if you keep on with your on-line reading (and include the Huffington Post and several pro-gay and other national news organizations) the one common thread of all the beficiaries of their largesse is that they are "pro-family" and anti-gay. Yes, they have other goals also, but this is common among all. Additionally, the founder (and his son, the current president) have publically stated their opposition to gay marriage, gay rights, et al (although of course they also "love everyone.").

Among their promotional activities, at one point they included a "pro-family" CD with every kids' meal sold in the restaurant!

If you want to be a manager or franchisee, you must undergo a stringent background check, which includes your relationship with your "husband or wife", as home-life relationships that are forged in sin (not my words) implies that since you are unfit at home, you likely will be unfit to run their restaurant.

On the other hand, once you are hired as a worker, you are said to be treated well, regardless of your orientation. And, some restaurants are known to donate to their local communities, which include gay events.

Personally, I consider the screening for management and the very public statements by the President and many of their other activities fit your definition of "business practices" and "discrimination in hiring," but that's my decision.
