Come to think of it, maybe the problem is not fear of books, but fear of length.

Well, against my better judgement, I clicked through to Roger's latest polemic, and did read the whole thing*. Maybe someone who's unaware of Roger's antics might find it interesting, but it was the usual rerun, all the way down to the sneering at folks who like A-B products. Nothing new there at all. I wish I'd skipped it like Steve P. (maybe he IS smarter than he looks  )

It is amusing to observe Roger's Rube Goldberg like constructions to condescendingly deduce why folks would drink Bud Light, instead of accepting that they, well... just like it. The especially funny part is when he explains how micro breweries are starting to make products that taste more like Bud Light in order to woo A-B customers. Ha! Ever think about not insulting them? Cognitive dissonance indeed!**

*Okay. I did skip a few parts.
**Is this controversial enough?
***Have I fallen into Mr. Baylor's trap again?

I find the wicks in the highlands to be filthy to the point of disgusting. after eating a terribly mediocre pie there last week, i felt the need to bathe from just being in there. it just seemed that every surface from floor to counter to table to wall, and probably ceiling, was sticky and reeked of month old beer.

my other gripe is the blind pig. I simply do not get all the rave revues. I must say, I really want to like this place, hence my fourth visit last night, yet each time I go I have a bad experience with either food or service. last night, sitting at the bar, i had what I consider to be the worst mussels i've ever tasted. they were inedible and it just blows me away that any fine dining esatblishment would serve them. they were horribly over-cooked mush flavored with what seemed to be a pound of onions.
our service was great, bartender took the mussels off our bill, and the oysters were very good.
Is it just the "garage bar effect", a cool space in a trendy location that fuels the success of this place?

Fake outrage?

Steve H perhaps next time you should acquiesce to your better judgement. Like SteveP you seem to have an axe to grind with Roger and filter his communications through a jaundiced eye.

I ask you; what do you think would be Roger's purpose in insulting his customers? I read his article and was not insulted. Were you insulted?

If you were insulted was it because you are a Bud Light drinker and thus felt slighted by Roger's remarks? If you are are not a Bud Light drinker were you insulted on behalf of all your Bud Light drinking friends. If you were not insulted what do you actually disagree with?

I have several close friends who are Bud Light drinkers. They know not of Inbev and I know of no worthwhile reason to make an issue of it. They are actually Roger's customers as well and I am pretty sure they will not be logging onto Lousivillebeer.com any time soon. Because you see for them, beer is not really very important. It is like iced tea or soda, except it has the benefit of getting them a bit euphoric. That's all.

For people who read Louisvillebeer.com and think that beer is as important to their dinning experience as some think wine is, there was nothing that Roger said that was in any way dissonant.

I wonder, if when Inbev buys your favorite wineries and continues to market them as local; will you begin to see Roger's point? Will you be insulted then?

I'm not seeing the outrage, fake or otherwise.

Shane Campbell wrote:Steve H perhaps next time you should acquiesce to your better judgement. Like SteveP you seem to have an axe to grind with Roger and filter his communications through a jaundiced eye.

Eh, so? Sometimes Roger posts links, and sometimes I choose to follow them. It's funny though, how you would defend the self declared polemicist from what he actually seeks. Do you suppose he posted that link so no one would follow it?

Shane Campbell wrote:I ask you; what do you think would be Roger's purpose in insulting his customers?

I've been wondering that myself. But, by my reckoning it's mainly some groups of potential customers that he insults.

Shane Campbell wrote:I read his article and was not insulted. Were you insulted? If you were insulted was it because you are a Bud Light drinker and thus felt slighted by Roger's remarks? Like you, I don't see the allure of A-B products. Unlike you, I can see when Roger is talking down to people. This just rubs me the wrong way, just as Roger intends it.

I wouldn't bring my friends to be customers of a man who thinks so little of them. Just because he insults them behind their backs, doesn't make it okay. Clearly you disagree.

Shane Campbell wrote:For people who read Louisvillebeer.com and think that beer is as important to their dinning experience as some think wine is, there was nothing that Roger said that was in any way dissonant.

I don't remember having visited Louisvillebeer.com before. But, all I need to know is that they allowed Roger to post that insulting polemic there.

When I drink beer, it's an inclusive "Have a beer mate" kind of deal. Roger's is a different deal. He likes to draw a line between folks worthy of his brew and those who aren't. This is the exact opposite of what beer should be about.

Sadly, it appears that Louisvillebeer.com is all about drawing those lines too.

Shane Campbell wrote:I wonder, if when Inbev buys your favorite wineries and continues to market them as local; will you begin to see Roger's point? Will you be insulted then?

Roger is welcome to battle A-B and InBev to his heart's content. I don't like a single one of their products, except maybe Goose Island. Was I supposed to stop liking it after the acquisition?

Wow SteveH,
I thought you were someone I could have have a discussion with. This reply is so inane, I fear I must be wrong. There is not one response here that actually makes any sense to me. Perhaps you should take a bit more time and try again. I'll not give up on you yet!

Am I supposed to guess what you didn't understand? If you would only highlight which parts are the most inane, perhaps we could start there, Or is it that you really didn't want this discussion? No biggie. I'm just some dude on the Internet.

I'm pretty sure I told you I didn't think any of it made much sense. Perhaps we could meet in person. I would love to meet you and find out just why you are so offended by what Roger wrote. I bet Roger would too as I can't see why anyone who appreciates fine wine or beer would be offended by what he wrote.

I quite enjoyed our little tea party discourse and I think you would be interesting to talk to in person.

It's very easy to sit behind a keyboard and stroke away. Not as easy to represent your beliefs in person. Will you meet me and discuss this or is this just an internet affair for you? Cheers!

Well, I guess we'll just have to let our posts stand as the only explanation for the other forumites.

Shane Campbell wrote:Perhaps we could meet in person. I would love to meet you and find out just why you are so offended by what Roger wrote.
It's stated pretty clearly in my first response to you.

Shane Campbell wrote:I bet Roger would too as I can't see why anyone who appreciates fine wine or beer would be offended by what he wrote.
I'm not sure Roger is interested. Maybe you should look up the word polemicist. That is what Roger calls himself. So, I really don't think he is seeking understanding.
