Re: U of L, UK, Final Four: Where do you plan to watch it?

I wouldn't have TVs at my wedding either. I wouldn't go to someone's wedding if I was going to be rude enough to watch TV during the celebration. I wouldn't invite people to my wedding who would watch TV if one were available. I also would only invite people I really value to my wedding - no second cousins I haven't seen in 20 years or neighbors that moved away 12 years ago that I see once every 4 years.

If some of the people I valued in my life were no longer in my life, I'd feel great sadness. If UK or UL basketball were not in my life (or Brewers baseball, or Tottenham soccer, or...), my life would still be plenty great.

People > everything else. That seems a decent life motto to me.

I and my family are from Columbus. Huge Buckeye fans.

My sister scheduled her wedding during the Michigan game six years ago. I've almost forgiven her.

I appreciate sports, but remain thankful to be unencumbered by rooting loyalties & other draining obsessions. It gives me more time to read, which I plan to do if not otherwise working ... with the latter being far more likely in the final analysis.

It was instructive when my wife, who neither is from this area nor follows college sports, asked me which of the four programs in the Final Four was the least corrupt; she'd root for that team, although probably not watch the actual games. I replied that any conceivable answer is so highly relative as to be nonsensical, but I tend to agree with her analysis. Wonder which one it is?

That is a good way to permanently alienate a large group of potential customers and deter quite a few people in the city from ever trying Zanzabar.

Are they going to have a bouncer in place? Armed guards?

well they seemed pretty sincere about doing it to prevent fighting...so i don't see how that would permanently alientate a large group actually. i just thought it was pretty interesting seeing the various reactions to this on the facebook page.

I didn't check the reactions, and I won't be out front picketing Zanzabar.

But now I can tell you that I will never go there. It really isn't that big of a deal, but it's still slightly insulting and there are plenty of other establishments around town that don't have a night where they ask "my kind" to stay away for a night to keep the peace.

Again, I'm not urging anybody to do anything, but I am fairly sane(for a UK fan, of course), so i can only imagine how other UK fans might react. Or UofL fans, had they been the group asked to stay away.

Ohio State is currently the poster child for NCAA sanctions along with USC and UNC.

Kentucky: I remember some Sports Illustrated cover about Kentucky's shame and their coach's first two Final Four visits have been wiped from the record book. And Hal Mumme didn't run an up-and-up program either.

Louisville: Well there are Pitino's PR issues and, if I remember correctly, UofL was placed on probation in the late 1990s: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/college/news/1998/09/22/lville_ban/

Kansas: They fired their football coach after allegations of emotional and physical player abuse

The owners are good people and they're just looking out for their business, trying to keep it safe in a state that is currently a powderkeg waiting to blow (fistfight in a dialysis clinic, anyone?) The outrage over their decision has been ridiculous.

I think it's a very good thing to do considering how ridiculous some people get about their teams! When UofL wins the UK fans will be tearing everything apart in Louisville for revenge!

My biggest fear is that there will be some kind of the-ref-screwed-up-contested finish to Saturday's game resulting in the people of this city/state NEVER shutting up about this game.
