Actually there's a rumor that that was how Lafayette got so far ahead. After Southern Living installed the CAPTCHA on the site, which basically presents the use of a bot, Louisville began catching up getting closer each day. We will probably be ahead by tomorrow! Everyone just needs to keep voting!

No doubt in my mind there was some kind of "bot" at work...but I'm not sure that explains the loss of 6000+ votes for L'ville that just "disappeared" last week.

I'm just wondering (aloud) how a city/parish with a population of 200K can possibly muster this many votes. I'm thinking they haven't solved the "bot" issue because there is obviously something amiss. I mean if it quakes like a duck and walks like a duck and sh**s like a duck...it's usually a ficking duck. No ?

Their details note that adjustments will be made ( time-lagged) for duplicate entries. You can only vote once in a day with a specific email address.

I Googled a little bit a while back and found a New Orleans Saints web forum seemed to be pushing Lafayette pretty hard. I don't know why they were pushing for another city when New Orleans is also a candidate, but they might have been suburbanites from Metairie ...

A NOLA foodie site is also encouraging everyone there to vote for Lafayette, to give their neighbor a little love:

Ditto the GeauxTigers.com forums.

It just seems like we're really fighting New Orleans and its surrogate, not just Lafayette alone.

This thread reminds me of following the baseball World Series scores in grammar school(whoops, elem. school) when the games were actually played during the day because electricity hadn't been invented yet. Since we didn't have smartphones (we had a "party line" at home but I think it had a different meaning than today) to sneak a peak scores during classes, the administration would post the inning by inning results in the hallway during the game.

Brooklyn Dodgers 3
F#<king Yankees 2

Bottom of the eighth.

I don't know if anyone else noticed, but the voting on this thing runs through the end of April. So the fervor people have on here and facebook for daily voting is going to be hard to sustain.

Yeah, here's the scoop from their FAQ:

When does the voting end?
Voting ends at 11:59 EST January 31, 2012 to determine The South's Tastiest Town.
