I think it did. Amply, adequately, and frankly more than you should reasonably have been expected to do. Thanks, Stan.

Works for me. The Kickstarter site doesn't say anything about longevity of the project. I think the investors are still getting a good "return". Business models change in order to survive and thrive. A good example is Groupon, which started as The Point, a website launched in November 2007 that let people start a campaign asking people to give money or do something as a group. What a change!

Why is it that the folks most ticked off by this on this thread did not invest in Morels, and the ones who did seem less concerned?

It's got to be really demoralizing to have people ripping you for being unprincipled. I didn't jump to post any kind of reaction because I didn't have an opportunity to look into what your story is and why you had to do what you did. Maybe I'll check out the podcasts, but I don't really need to; what you say above sums it up well. I'm not a businesslady, but I at least understand that you have to adapt to market realities or you're dead in the water. I think it's super-awesome that you're going to do vegan-vegetarian catering here in town. Smart move - you will really be filling a void in the market. I'm not a vegan but I adore vegan cooking when done well.

What a ridiculous thread. I've known Stan for nearly ten years and to say he's anything but a stand-up, honest guy is just crazy. And even if I didn't know him, he's broken no rules or laws, or even done anything immoral business wise. He's changing, adapting his business, in order to survive; Kickstarter is all about helping people get STARTED in business and that's exactly what it's done. He's a new businessman with a new business and in order for his business to survive and possibly thrive, which is what Kickstarter is meant to do for those without such experience, he's adapted his business model.

"How dare a new businessman adapt to survive, he should drive that truck into the ground!" see how silly that sounds.

One last point here regarding donors. I myself did not donate to his business however if I did I would expect no kind of return from that donation. That'd be like if I donated $50 to the Salvation Army around Christmas time with the hopes that my donation would go to meals or shelter or toys for homeless families but later find out it was used for gas for their vehicles, then get mad about it. Get over yourself, if you did in fact donate, you are not a shareholder. Words have meanings and "donate" does not mean ":invest."

Amen. I did make a gift, and I consider it that. No return expected. I've done several Kickstarter gifts, and I always opt out of any sort of return gift that may be offered. I think we should all spend a few bucks to help a budding entrepreneur get going.

I've reviewed this with my legal team in Sellersburg and I have only one question: Did people get their scarves?

What a great thought, Todd! We like to do that globally with donation to Kiva.org and this year, a donation to Heifer International. I hadn't thought of Kickstart for this kind of "pass it on" donation.

I just can't figure out why the same posters here always misunderstand how things work, immaterial of the technology involved. A cursory understanding of Kickstarter -- or even perhaps a few minutes in their FAQ (minutes, not copy and paste of a paragraph, which clearly wasn't even read fully) - would have put most of this to rest.

I have no dog in this fight. I don't believe I've ever eaten at Morel's (maybe at Truckus Ruckus if they were there?). But the whole Kickstarter bit on this thread is really ridiculous.

Lazy posting is lazy. Do research. Don't pull a paragraph with confirmation bias.

Morels dude, you were way too nice, there. You're in the service industry and such, but at some point you really should just tell certain people to go fly a kite, especially when they're "oh so worried for the poor people who might x,y, z." It's happy horseshit to stir up drama and nothing else.
