Matt, just ignore Steve. He doesn't have anything better to do to make himself feel important. Without LHB he wouldn't have much of a life.

Congrats Steve, you are the king of the message boards. Loser.

<shrugs>...Whatever.

Steve, don't get to be like the bozo who gets drunk and acts up and has to be thrown out of the bar because all he does is pick on other customers and start fights. Nobody really likes that guy. I'd appreciate it if you don't go there. I'm not happy about Matt's response of feeling run off the forum.

I won't have the regulars running people off the forum. Stop it. Now.

That doesn't help either, Brian. You missed a good opportunity to keep your mouth shut. Next time, think twice before you open it to say something like that.

I DO see the irony here. While I am not saying that "stealing one's corner" is the ethical or the right thing to do (karma is a mutha), how can someone stake a claim to what I assume to be a public corner? This is not applicable to Pat's / Las Gordita's situation...they pay rent and lease a spot within a privately owned parking lot. I would assume that in public areas, streets, etc. food truck locations are first come first served. I do not condone one mobile vendor, setting up shop where another is doing their thing and hopefully making some $$$...however, I also do not see how one food truck could claim that a corner is there's and there's alone. I believe that we are talking about public / city locations, and not privately owned sites

If I am missing something, I'd be interested to see the mobile vendors standpoint on this topic, as my knowledge is pretty limited.

With that said, I had a Fancy Pants sandwich from the Lil' Cheezers truck at the Oxmoor farmers market Saturday. The sandwich was prepared very quickly! The wheat-berry bread was nicely toasted and the brie was creamy. The carmelized onions added nice flavor and the walnuts a good crunch. I wasn't as big of a fan of the homemade chips as others have been...they were not as hot or crispy as I would have liked. I'd certainly try another sandwich from this truck.

Thanks. DD

I hope you'll reconsider, Matt. I don't want these forums to be the kind of place where people feel unwanted and run off.

As everyone knows, I bend over backward not to be a nanny moderator. Not to censor.

But dammit! Act like your mothers taught you some manners, people! It's not that complicated.

I think it's the karma thing, and the expectation that most people will do the right thing. Especially in the situation we currently seem to have in Louisville, where most of the food truck operators seem to recognize the value in working together rather than pulling apart.

Remember when Whole Foods came to town and opened up one block from Wild Oats? No law said they couldn't do that, but a lot of people thought it looked sleazy. It didn't take much Googling to learn that this is an apparent standard practice of Whole Foods, and it took some of the edge off their much-anticipated arrival in town. Not illegal, but palpably not right.

We dropped by Growers Supply on Thursday and had a Caprese grilled cheese sandwich and a pizza grilled cheese. They were awesome, and so were the hand-cut fries and homemade curry ketchup. Two thumbs up.

I don't understand either LOL.. No worries. But yeah my first day on the street some dude pulled up right behind my stand and started selling "BBQ". I simply called IPL to get things cleared up. If they made a mistake and issued two permits for one location (has happened before) I wanted to make sure what was up. But it was the dude who had made a uninformed decision to put his van 10 feet from me with raw meat (YUCK!) in a cooler. He had no idea regarding legal compliance. I offered to help him.

I tried to explain to him the laws (I know them back to front re street vending) but he declined my offer to help him get legal and start rocking the bbq (it's in my interests to have other vendors succeed) but he chose to threaten me and yell at me. I almost got into a fight my very first day at my location (1st and Washington). It was wild! But street vending can be fun like that at times :)

Re: the 14 day rule... well, from what it seems to me it is due to Kentucky writing those laws in regards to ice cream trucks and state fair vendors. At the time they were written (I would bet 60's or 70's) the concept of a "food truck" as we know it was not even a dream. They just need to update these laws. And for the record, I support regulation. If we didn't (and I use this example often) we could have goofballs cooking roadkill over burning tires and selling it. The health dept and IPL have been nothing but helpful with me. And they always are eager to help. The trick is doing your research before hand and going into a meeting with them INFORMED. I have no complaints... Cheers!

Oh, and to clear up any confusion.. I own and operate a food stand (a hot dog cart essentially) NOT a food truck. Food truck laws are totally different. ;) I pay a yearly rental/lease to the metro gov for the corner. You can't just set up on any corner. They must check it first to see if it is in compliance with metro laws (100 ft from a brick and mortar and 50 ft from the nearest vendor. I support these regulations.) Cheers!

Must be some damn cheap tires and brakes (and struts, etc)...Whatta ya gettin out of a set of tires and brakes ? 1000...maybe 1200 miles ?

Seriously, I don't think Steve was picking on anyone. These are valid questions, albeit stated in an abbressive manner. DD

Talk to Inspections Permits and Licenses, they are the ones that give hot dog cart vendors the right to certain public corners. So yes... when someone is paying the fees to get a certain corner then its theirs to sell food there.

Thanks for the compliments on the sandwich.

and PS... this isnt my first rodeo with Steve...

This happens in a lot of industries. Why is Lowes always next to Home Depot? Why are there restaurant rows? Why is Oxmoor across the street from The Mall?

And is La Quinta spanish for "next to Denny's"?

What happens if a B&M decides to open up within the 100-foot zone of your previously approved location? Do you get bumped?
