Good Lord, sounds like the troups were out in force Saturday....sorry I missed the fun. I must say, we've been the Majid's 4 times since it opened, and have had only one minor mis-step, which Mijid himself corrected swiftly and without pause. The service has always been incredable, and the food has always been top notch.

One thing this thread has proven to me is the beauty of this forum. We all have our own spin on things, and the take from our own experiences. That being said (and this is how I look at things), we must all agree to disagree when necessary.

Ate at Majid's last week for lunch with a co-worker. Going on our lunch break we were hoping for a great, fairly speedy lunch and we were both very hungry.

The place is very nice. We had to wait just a few moments for a table as there was a little wait. The lunch menu looks great with many good and varied choices.

He ordered a pork dish and I ordered the fried fish sandwich. From there it was a very long wait for our food as we were watching the time being hungry and on lunch. It took approx 30 to 35 min to get our food. We didn't see our server the entire time after ordering. We also noticed other tables seemed to have complimentary (may be wrong about this) bread but we did not.

An experience that is not so great is based on individual expectations and the situation. We did notice what seemed to be a lot of "old money" enjoying leisurely long lunch's and enjoying themselves. We were there to have a great meal in a reasonable time frame.

The food and menu delivered but the service and long wait for food did not. I will return just because I love the menu and I am sure the service and cooking times will improve.

Thanks and good luck.

Question: Do some believe those that may dine in fine dining establishments are automatically pretentious?

Personally, if you are referring to Majid's I would not describe it as fine dining. It's a very nice restaurant but the price points are very reasonable (for lunch) for the quality. The fish dish I had was $8 and was lot of food. They had other lunch options for $8 as well. But they had a nice looking steak dish for $12.99 I believe.

Personally,I don't care who is dining in a restaurant or their attitude, I was describing the general demographic.

I love fine dining because of the care and attention to the details - in the end the food still has to measure up. I appreciate and admire service at that level so long as it's not pretentious for the sake of being pretentious. In my experience fine dining has become considerably more casual over the past 10 years or so anyway.

It's a general question and directed towards one restaurant.

Excellent post, I can feel it as well. Majid's will be here for a long time.

We went to Majid's Saturday night and everything was spot on. Kerri was a fantastic server, Majid made the rounds several times and Stephen came over a couple of times as well even though the bar looked packed.

Hub and I started with the salmon appetizer and it was so good, we could have stopped there and been happy. Yes, salmon and benedictine is the perfect paring. Friends had the sabzi for 2 and seemed to enjoy it. (Naturally we started with some of Stephen's fabulous cocktails).

We all had salads next which were perfectly fine but not remarkable. I do think I made a mistake in getting the wedge. While it was tasty, I should have gone with a lighter salad (not so heavy a dressing), but that was my mistake.

Entrees - the table had Seafood Stew, Pork Diablo, Salmon, Lamb Chops. Each of us professed we had "won", but honestly I think Hub won with the lamb chops. I loved my salmon and am not much of a lamb eater, but he couldn't stop talking about them (and about the bite of Diablo he was able to taste). The seafood stew will be my next order.

For dessert Hub and I split the European chocolate mousse and our friends split the raspberry tart. Let me say, I think they were the most beautifully presented desserts I've ever seen. The mousse was delicious and just enough for 2 after the meal. The raspberry tart must have been delicious as well because there was nary a crumb left on the plate.

In addition to our starter cocktails (I have the lovely violet champagne one and Hub had the tobacco Manhattan), we shared a bottle of Israeli Petite Syrah (perfect and 1/2 price) and sweet Stephen brought us this to die for drink at the end of the meal of Belgian chocolate and Cabernet.

Perfect service, perfect food and great atmosphere - thank you to everyone at Majid's. We're already trying to figure out when we'll be back!

Robin, thanks for honoring us with your presence.

It works both ways, I tell you, that meal made us all so very happy to do what we do- the kind of experience that makes one smile to oneself at the end of the day.

I call it 'the espresso moment-' that point at which the day's chores are done and you're enjoying a cup of exceptionally strong coffee (before you clean up.)

Did you do good? What are your next challenges? Most importantly- did everyone leave happy?

I find that if I smile to myself- that I feel more invigorated walking out of the day than going into it...

It was a good day.

I too was there Sat. night. I had the dinner special of filet and my GF had the Pork Diablo. Majid stopped by a couple of times to say hello and to check on us. Dinner was fantastic. When we were finished we took what was left of our second bottle of wine and enjoyed Bobby’s sing in the lounge. As I told Majid…this is now my new favorite place. I look forward to Majid and his staff a long and successful stay in St. Matthew’s! Thank you again for a wonderful evening.
