THANK YOU, John of Lake Wazzapamani! You wouldn't believe how shocked, shocked! people have been when learning that my neighborhood pizza joint (Frank's, 6506 W. Belmont) had pies that one would associate more with what we now know as New York pizza.

As for you not wanting to be rude, it sounds like the Louisville's gotten to you. Until then... don't you go changin'!

Lets see..is that the joint thats all up in the "N" streets? If so I remember they make a fine beef there as well. Here a couple of links you might enjoy.

Its kind of shame most people out side of Chi town have no idea what Chicago pizza is all about. Even our very own Robin who is constantly pointing out all the different NY styles, refuses to acknowledge that most folks in Chicago dont eat deep dish or "casserole" ,as he puts it. I guess its just constant bombardment from lame tv shows and lousy food and travel magazines that gives it that image.

Oh yeah the "dont you go changin" comment..can I attribute that to Murph and the Magic Tones?

Okay, in fairness, I've said nice things about Windy City Pizza on South Fourth near Winkler, in the Churchill Downs neighborhood, where they're supposed to do a pretty authentic job of both thick and thin Chicago pizza. Have you guys tried it out, and when you do, do you think of it as a benchmark Chi-town pie?

I do like Chicago, but when we've gone up there it has usually been in search of ethnic food. (Yeah, I know. Pizza is ethnic. But you know what I mean ... )

That's the one, John, somewhat across from the now-departed Turner Bowl. Collect 20 cards and get a free pizza! I remember YEARS ago being on a plane and the couple next to me was so thrilled to get the inside scoop on pizza from a 'real Chicagoan' and looked at me like I was putting them on when I told them there wasn't an Uno's-type pizza place on every corner—and the way I described Frank's proximity to downtown, you'd think I was sending them to Siberia. Don't even get me started on how people pronounce gyros.

And of course you are correct—Murph and their candy-ass monkey suits.

Well, I have to admit we have not been to Windy City Pizza. I guess I often find places that call themselves "Chicago" style whatever, end up leaving me disappointed. Ill tell you what,Ill make a report on Windy City Pizza and next time you go up to Chi town what say you try out a Vito and Nicks pizza and let me know what you think? As a bonus its right near the polish part of town and you can check out the Gilmart nearby. Its one of the best ethnic meat shop and eateries in the whole city.

I would expect a chain owned by the Rock Bottom Brewery chain to have an excellent beer list. OC is also local brewery friendly.

Fair deal. Bear in mind also that the proprietor of Windy City is a Polish-American guy who comes from there. And to sweeten the pot, Matthew is the kind of small-business owner who gives back. He puts a lot of his proceeds into charitable and community organizations including one day each moth when he turns over 10 percent of his gross (not net) for the day to a designated local charity.

Here's a review - the link goes to the middle of a longer article, so scroll past the pictures to get to the words ...
