Rant all you want, if people perceive they are being ripped off, then they will go elsewhere and the problem will take care of itself.

Nimbus, When I come to YOUR restaurant I will meet a reasonable price for a Coke?

FWIW, there's a Coke machine between St Matthews Hardware and the bus stop at Breckinridge and Shelbyville that has cans for 50 cents. Nice and cold too! (I rarely drink it, but on a hot day...)

Would people be willing to pay less for single servings, if you know your only going to drink 1 glass of soda, is 1.25 ok? is 1.50 ok? How bout 2.00 and I give you a token you can trade in for a single refill.

I think the removal of "free refills" would ease the price point, but then I dont like to think about it, sometimes I'm thirsty and dont want to think about every time I order one of these its gonna be 1.25

Some local restaurants serve drinks so large you could drown a child in the glass, so you dont have to think about refills, but in a standard 16-20 glass with ice your not really getting that much, I get even less cuz I like my my drinks really cold so I always request that glass be full of ice. Now I know that really doesnt compare to annemarie who is a non icer.

what other option is there, should a location stock two types of glasses to serve the same drink, those that get refills, and those that dont.
The 'net is a waste of time, and that's exactly what's right about it.

It's a long way from:

As for "I don't drink water," so you're too picky for their free offering.

to
nimbus, how would you like it if someone shoved a piece of meat down your throat.

Quite the escalation of rhetoric.

I feel that something is getting lost here.
I like go out to eat for the experience of it and that experience comes at a price. I know that I'm probably going to hurt some feelings here, but the price of your beverage is just part of your experience. I have the feeling that some of you feel that you're being "soaked" by the price of your soda or iced tea. It's pretty unfair to compare restaurant prices to what they cost in the grocery or some other discount store. But then again, most anything you buy at the grocery and make for yourself at home is going to be cheaper than eating out as well.
The "Bizz" is tough way to try to make a living folks. The meager profits that may be realized don't come without a lot of long hours and hard work.
I could give everyone a precursory lesson in food and labor costs and how they relate to pricing on a profitable menu as well as the other operating expenses that most of you would never consider.
In the mean time I don't begrudge anyone for charging what they see as a fair price for something on their menu.
Myself, I personally don't think 3 bucks for a soda with free refills is that out of hand.

That may sound strange to some people but my wife is the same way. I know where you are coming from in that regard.
